For safety, but not traffic cameras

Everyone should want traffic safety. That's why we have laws setting speed limits and other rules about how we drive our cars.

But the purpose of traffic laws should be safety, not "gotcha" or "speed traps" to generate big monetary collections for local governments.

There is not much enthusiasm among motorists for "traffic cameras" that may catch speeders on film -- resulting in fines, with a large part of the money going to the private companies that supply the cameras and the rest to local governments.

Let's set speed limits, and other laws, at reasonable levels to move traffic while keeping our people safe. Let's enforce reasonable speed limits and other laws of the road for safety. But let's not use traffic cameras as a "Big Brother" means to raise money to finance local governments.
