EAST RIDGE: Be careful with gas grills on holiday

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July. Please remember, LP gas or propane, used in gas grills, is highly flammable. Each year about 30 people are injured as a result of gas grill fires and explosions. To reduce the risk of fire or explosion, consumers should routinely perform safety checks. Charcoal produces carbon monoxide when burned. Each year about 30 people die and hundreds are injured as a result of carbon monoxide fumes from charcoal grills used inside. To reduce carbon monoxide poisonings, never burn charcoal inside of homes, vehicles, tents, or campers. Charcoal should never be used indoors, even if ventilation is provided.
