SIGNAL MOUNTAIN: Fourth of July celebration on Monday

Town offices will be closed on Monday for the July 4th holiday. Happy Independence Day to everyone and enjoy this unusual three-day July Fourth holiday weekend. To see times and locations for fireworks in the area visit, http://ChattanoogaAndBeyond.com.

The Lions July 4th Celebration will be Monday and will begin with barbecue served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until it runs out. Fireworks display will commence at 9:40 p.m.

The Lions will be offering free vision screening for children 1- to 5-years old. The screening can detect problems that cause poor vision in young children and will take place in the old pool house from 1-3 p.m. Shuttle bus available this year, the free service will move folks from Signal Crest United Methodist Church to Althaus Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with help on and off the bus.

The 39th summer production of the Signal Mountain Playhouse is "Brigadoon," which runs July 9-10, July 15-17 and July 22-24.

Directing is Mike Lees, well known in musical and dramatic circles in Chattanooga, and choreographing is Jessica Laliberte Bowman of Squawking Heads Productions. Sandy Morris is conducting the 28-member Playhouse orchestra. Tickets are $100 for adults and $5 for children and go on sale at 6 p.m. for those who wish to place lawn chairs early. A Meet the Candidates Rally will be held at Lone Oak Community Center, 1278 U.S. Highway 127 on Friday, July 9, at 7:30 p.m. for all Sequatchie County candidates and all persons interested.

On July 12, the Signal Mountain Town Council meeting will address among other things revision to the sign ordinance. If you are a business owner you should attend and get involved. It may or may not affect your signage.
