Shooting victim in critical condition

Jerome Timmons was shot in the head and is in critical condition after getting into a fight on Glass Street early Sunday, according to police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval.

Chattanooga police responded to the shooting about 2:45 a.m. at 2400 Glass St., she said.

Witnesses told police that Mr. Timmons, 31, and Jamaul Herman, 27, got into a fight in the parking lot of The Palace bar. Witnesses said the suspect pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at Mr. Timmons. Mr. Timmons then turned to run across Taylor Street, and Mr. Herman followed and fired his gun twice, striking Mr. Timmons in the head, Officer Royval said.

Witnesses told police the suspect left in a white vehicle.

Mr. Timmons was taken to Erlanger hospital by Hamilton County EMS, where he was listed in critical condition late Sunday.

Mr. Herman was stopped by officers on Tarpon Trail in the Highway 58 area and taken into custody, Officer Royval said. Mr. Herman apparently had suffered a broken jaw during the altercation with Mr. Timmons and was taken to Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery, she said.

Warrants for Mr. Herman's arrest have been issued for aggravated assault and attempted murder and will be served upon his release from the hospital, Officer Royval said.
