Peachtree City police stop golf cart texting

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Peachtree City police are giving out citations for golf cart drivers who text behind the wheel.

Each year, police say they have about 60 or 70 accidents on the cart paths of Peachtree City. One included a fatality several years ago.

The crackdown comes as a state law goes into effect banning texting while driving cars. That law has sparked debate as critics raise questions about how it can be accurately enforced.

Capt. Rosanna Dove says enforcement for them will be easier than in cars because golf carts are not enclosed.

Police have six bike officers, two ATVs, and another motorized vehicle to patrol the paths.
