NASHVILLE — Republican gubernatorial hopeful Zach Wamp today announced his campaign has raised more than $4 million in contributions through the end of the second quarter on June 30.
At the end of the first quarter, the Chattanooga congressman had raised nearly $3.2 million.
“I am deeply grateful for the strong financial support I have received from every corner of our state,” Rep. Wamp, R-Tenn., said in a news release. “We still have more to raise, but thanks to the generous support from so many, we are now ready to win this race and move our state forward.”
The campaign did not state how much money it has on hand as the campaigns gear up for early voting, which begins July 16.
Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bill Haslam said last week he raised more than $1.7 million from April through June with an estimated $700,000 of it coming in a final fundraising “blitz” during the final two weeks of June.
That pushes the Knoxville mayor’s fundraising totals to more than $8.7 million for the Aug. 5 GOP primary in which he faces Rep. Wamp and Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville.
Lt. Gov. Ramsey has yet to announce his second quarter fundraising figures.
Democrat candidate Mike McWherter also has not released his quarterly fundraising figures.
The reports do not have to be filed with the state until July 12.
Rep. Wamp, referring to Mr. Haslam, said “while one of my opponents has been spending money as fast as he can in an effort to buy this race, we have managed our campaign like we will manage the state — carefully and conservatively, watching our budget and spending each dollar wisely.
“We feel good that with just a little more help at several of our remaining July fundraising events, that we will fully fund our campaign budget and win this race,” Rep. Wamp said.
