University of Georgia football coach Mark Richt announced Sunday evening that redshirt sophomores Dontavius Jackson and Tavarres King are suspended indefinitely from team activities following their arrests early Saturday morning in Athens on alcohol-related charges.

Richt also announced that Jackson, a reserve tailback, will be suspended a minimum of six games for the upcoming season, while King, a starting receiver, will serve at least a one-game suspension.

"I'm disappointed in their decision-making and lack of judgment, and they will both pay a stiff price," Richt said. "All our players need to understand that it's a privilege to be a Bulldog and their conduct needs to reflect the standards we expect."

Richt could impose additional penalties. He's continuing to gather information about the incident.

The number of missed games for Jackson and King happen to coincide with the number of misdemeanor charges each player incurred this weekend. Jackson was charged with DUI, underage possession of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, failing to move over, following too closely and driving with a learner's permit.

King was a passenger with Jackson and was charged with underage possession.

Seven Bulldogs players have been arrested since March, including three who were dismissed: backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger, backup outside linebacker Montez Robinson and backup punter Trent Dittmer.

The arrests of Jackson and King were the first since former Georgia athletic director Damon Evans was arrested June 30 on a DUI charge in Atlanta. Evans was forced to resign within a week.
