Tennessee jobless rate falls in June to 10.1 percent

Unemployment fell last month in Tennessee but remained above the national jobless rate, the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development said today.

Tennessee's jobless rate in June fell by three-tenths of a percentage point to 10.1 percent. Last month's rate was below Tennessee's 10.9 percent jobless level reached a year ago, but it remained above the comparable U.S. rate of 9.5 percent.

"The unemployment rate in Tennessee fell in June as a result of moderate growth in employment," Labor Commissioner James Neeley said in a statement. "Modest gains in areas like construction and leisure/hospitality were offset by job losses in education and census workers."
