CLEVELAND, Tenn. — The Cleveland school board is considering a list of items that might be added to its long-range facilities plan.
During a recent Site Committee meeting, Schools Director Rick Denning handed out a list of items to be considered.
The board may set up a retreat to discuss the long-range plan now that two major projects — the Cleveland High School science wing and renovation of Stuart Elementary School — are well along.
Committee Chairman Dr. Murl Dirksen said he would like to have some cost estimates, but Dr. Denning said estimates taken now would likely change before the added items on the list could be addressed.
Dr. Denning said money from the voter-approved sales tax increase last summer only should be used for facilities, not debt service.
He also warned the committee that salaries for maintenance staff must be addressed in next year’s budget.
In other business, Dr. Denning announced recently his plans to retire in one year, and board Chairwoman Peggy Pesterfield said she will set up a separate session with a Tennessee School Boards Association representative in August to consider a nationwide search for a new director.
