'Team Edward' fans on the prowl

"Team Edward" fans from around the country want to know if, when and where actor Robert Pattinson will be in Chattanooga, filming scenes for his new film "Water for Elephants."

Pattinson, the actor best known for his role as vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" films, has a legion of fans known as "Team Edward."

Missy Crutchfield, director of Chattanooga's Education, Arts and Culture, confirmed last week that scenes for the movie, which stars Pattinson and Oscar winner and Nashville native Reese Witherspoon, are being shot in the area and that crews have been here for a month building sets and scouting locations.

Neither Crutchfield nor 20th Century Fox, which is producing the film, will say if the stars will be here.

However, a posting on the Facebook page for On Location Vacations said Pattinson was spotted at UCLA in Los Angeles on Monday.

That has not stopped fans from communicating on Internet sites such as onlocationvacations.com and trying to guess where the filming will take place or from planning to come here in search of the "Twilight" star.

Some also are passing along insider tidbits.

"From the sets I've been on before, Rob sometimes comes out to say hi, sign autographs and take photos with fans at the end of the night after the youngsters and paparazzi leave. And I mean late! My friends have met him on set at 2-4am," writes Shanell B. on the On Locations Vacations website.

Officials are being tight-lipped about production details, but fans on the site have identified a house in Kensington, Ga., and the Chattanooga Choo Choo as possible locations.

On the website for On Location Vacations, "Danielle" writes that she lives in LaFayette, Ga., and drove to the road where rumors say the filming is taking place.

"I found the little house on the right, it's so obvious, there is a sign with an arrow on it right in front of it and lots of people working and trucks and campers there," she writes, "so I figure it's got to be it, is that correct??"

Annie Still, director of sales at the Choo Choo, acknowledged the hotel complex has film crew staying there.

"So do other hotels," she said. "We actually have a small portion of the number. I do know there will not be anything shot here and I do not believe we have the stars here."

A news release from 20th Century Fox released through the Tennessee Film, Entertainment, & Music Commission said only that principal photography was under way and offered some basic facts about the film.

In the movie, set during the Great Depression, Pattinson plays a penniless and recently orphaned veterinary school student who goes to work for a traveling circus. He meets and falls in love with the married Marlena, played by Witherspoon, one of the show's star performers.
