Georgia man charged in Tennessee courthouse takeover plot

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A Georgia man faces a federal charge that he armed himself and came to Tennessee to help extremists take over a county courthouse.

Federal court documents say Darren Wesley Huff of Dalton, Ga., talked freely to police, his banker and a radio show about an anti-government plan to seize the Monroe County Courthouse in Madisonville.

Huff, who has pleaded not guilty, was arraigned Friday in Knoxville. His attorney didn't immediately return a message seeking comment.

An FBI affidavit says Huff came to Tennessee on April 20 to help a Sweetwater man charged after he tried to arrest a grand jury foreman who refused to indict President Barack Obama on treason charges.

The affidavit says Huff was wearing a pistol and said he was ready to die for his cause.
