Braly: Mouth-watering basil found in garden

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

So how's your garden growing? Mine is lush with peppers, tomatoes, okra, squash, and best of all, basil. Why basil? Because I can mix it with my peppers, tomatoes and squash and bring their flavors to new heights. My mouth is already watering for some good bruschetta. There's just no comparison when making it with fresh basil and summer tomatoes. And fresh basil in squash casserole or a tomato pie with some sauteed peppers is primo.

The only problem .... My basil is ready to pick, but I've gotta wait another month, probably, for summer tomatoes and squash. But man, they'll be worth the wait. Now, I can just keep the deer and rabbits at bay. I staked a solar light in my garden. It changes colors througout the night, from pink to green to blue to red. I'm hoping it will scare the critters away. That is, unless they think it's a blue-light special and invite their friends. So far, it's worked, though.
