Cleveland collegiate singers enter national barbershop competition

Rush Hour, a collegiate barbershop quartet from the Dixie District of the Barbershop Harmony Society, will compete Tuesday in the society's national competition, the Bank of America Collegiate Contest.

The collegiate competition is part of the International Barbershop Convention, which is being held in Philadelphia.

Lee University student Shaun Sneed and Lee graduate Alex Sturgill are members of Rush Hour, along with Samford University students Adam Murphy and Jackson Pinder.

The four singers are all experienced musicians, but have never formally studied voice since their backgrounds are in instrumental music.

Mr. Sneed plays saxophone and is majoring in music business at Lee. Mr. Sturgill plays trumpet and has toured with the Lee University Symphonic Band. He majored in telecommunications while at Lee.

Mr. Murphy plays several brass instruments, and Mr. Pinder is a concert percussionist. Both study music education at Samford.
