The Calhoun Police Department on Tuesday seized vials, pills and other paraphernalia believed to be used in distributing anabolic steroids at several Northwest Georgia high schools.
Investigators took the items from a car in the Calhoun High School parking lot, according to a news release from the department.
“The investigation has indicated students from several Northwest Georgia Schools may be involved in the use of these drugs,” said Sgt. Javier Marquez, commander of the department’s special operations division.
A juvenile student, whom police did not identify, was taken into custody and subsequently released to his parents, authorities said. The student had not been charged or arrested, according to officers who also did not identify the student’s age or whether he is an athlete at the school.
Hal Lamb, the school’s athletics director, said he couldn’t elaborate on the incident. “I do know it didn’t have anything to do with the athletic department,” he said.
He said more details might emerge in a few days.
A police spokeswoman said detectives are working a lead at least one other high school and a “bigger story” could come later.
