Nathan Deal changes date of resignation

Georgia U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal says he will delay his resignation from Congress so he can vote against the health care reform bill.

Rep. Deal announced earlier this week he intended to resign to focus full-time on his campaign for the Republican nomination for Georgia governor.

In a news release today, Rep. Deal said he had discussed the timing with Gov. Sonny Perdue, who he said "strongly urged him to stay."

"Yesterday, as I listened to President Obama's aggressive push for a quick vote on 'Obama-Care,' it was clear that I must stay in Congress and continue to fight against the most liberal health care agenda ever proposed," Rep. Deal stated in the release.

President Obama said this week he will support passage of health care reform using what's called a reconciliation process to get around Republican opposition.
