4 nominees for TVA win nod

A U.S. Senate panel on Thursday approved four White House nominees for the Tennessee Valley Authority. In a voice vote, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee endorsed the presidential appointments to fill the nine-member TVA board, which has been operating with a minimum five-member quorum since January.

The appointments, which must still be approved by the full U.S. senate, include Dr. Marilyn A. Brown, a professor at Georgia Tech who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore for her work on global warming; Dr. Barbara S. Haskew, a Middle Tennessee State University professor of labor relations and a former TVA manager; Neil McBride, an Oak Ridge attorney; and William B. Sansom, a Knoxville businessman who formerly was chairman of TVA.
