Prophetess Jois Junita Adams, 72, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at her home.
She was the Minister of Flames of Fire Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Robbie (Phil) Brown; grandchildren, Billy, Phillips, Christy, Phillips, Janie Wilson; great-grandchildren, Micah, Jonathon, Ethan, Peyton, Jacob, Blake, Baeleigh.

Ted Bedoit
Edward "Ted" Wrightson Bedoit, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
He was born March 14, 1916 to the late Edward J. and Natalie Wrightson Bedoit. An alumnus of Central High School, he served three years in the Army Air Corps as a pilot in World War II. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ayer Bedoit.
Survivors include his sister, Natalie Bedoit Whortan, of Ooltewah; three nieces, Natalie (Jim) Brown, of Lakewood, Colo., Rebecca (Keith) Riggs, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Marcia (Jim) Fletcher, of Ooltewah; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Dana Lynn Broom officiating.

Otis Carter
Otis Charles Carter, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, in a local hospital.

Michael Dawkins
Michael A. Dawkins, 55, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010.
Michael had been employed by Winn Dixie and Bi-Lo Stores as a courtesy clerk; McDonald's on Highway 58 and most recently Chattanooga Times Free Press in the mail room.
He attended Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the men's choir.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Ben F. and Willie Mae Dawkins; sisters, Evelyn Thomas and Carolyn Dawkins.
Michael is survived by sisters, Juanita Merdith and Brenda (Waymon) Martin, Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Ben (Sharon) Dawkins, Cheshire, Conn., Russell (Fern) Dawkins, Baton Rouge, La., Lonnie (Cynthia) Dawkins, Nashville, Arthur (Maridee) Dawkins, Chattanooga, Tony (Violet) Dawkins and Donald Dawkins, of Detroit, Mich.; special aunts, Everlena Hart and Buelah Davis of Chattanooga; plus a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held on noon, Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1734 East Third St., Chattanooga, TN 37404 with the Rev. Harold K. Lester, Senior Pastor.
Viewing and family hour will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Terrance Montez Etchison, 27, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.
He was employed by Pilgrim Pride.

Nina Farren Evans, 83, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2010, in Mobile, Ala.
Funeral services will be held today at 11:30 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Fred Russell officiating.

Ila Fugatt
Ila Mae Palmer Fugatt, 91, of Hixson, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in a local hospital with her family at her side.
Ila was born in DeKalb County, Ala., and resided in Hixson for the past 59 years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church since 1951. Ila enjoyed life with her husband until his untimely death in 1977, but continued to fulfill some of her dreams when she and her sister Grace traveled to many parts of the world until their declining health cut short their adventures.
Ila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Newman J. "Sam" Fugatt; parents, James Harrison and Mae Belle Gann Palmer; and her sisters, Gladys Smith, Meredith Riddle, Agnes Daniels and Grace Bowman.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Joe H. (Jackie) Fugatt, Dalton, Ga., Ron (Anita) Fugatt, Hixson, and Bill (Becky) Fugatt Hendersonville, Tenn.; Brother, James H. Palmer, Wills Point, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the North Chapel.
Services for Ila will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the North Chapel by Dr. Darreyl Duggar.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with David Fugatt, Chris Rogers, Matthew Killebrew, David Perry, Mark Smith and Tim Wilson serving as pallbearers.

Derrick Fuller
Derrick "Fat Cat" Fuller, 36, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away in Louisville, Ky., on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010.
He joined Union Grove at an early age.
He graduated from Brainerd High School, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Master's Degree; Webster University, Louisville, Ky., with a Master's of Business and a Master's of Health Administration.
He was employed by Jefferson County Correction. He was a member of Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity Inc.; and Mason Lodge Free and Accepted.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Reggie Jackson.

Mary Jo Grems-Lewis
Mary Jo Grems-Lewis, 92, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010.
Mary Jo was a graduate from GPS in 1935 and received a B.S. degree from Western College for Women, now a part of Miami University of Ohio and also, received her master's of Education, from the University of Chattanooga.
Mary Jo worked as a laboratory technician at Erlanger Hospital, was a Science teacher at Hixson Junior High School and started teaching Science at the Girls Preparatory School in 1966 and retired in 1982.
She was instrumental in establishing the first blood bank at Erlanger Hospital.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Chattanooga Book Club and North Chattanooga Sewing Club.
She was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward G. Grems Jr. and husband, Stanley J. Lewis; father, Leroy C. Train Sr.; mother, Rebecca B. Train; brother, Leroy C. Train Jr.
Survivors include her son, Edward "Ted" Grems III, his wife, Kelly, and daughter, Laura, of Vienna, Va.; daughter, Mary Grems, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Charlotte Grems Holland, her husband, Phillip, three children, Tyler Clark and his wife, Jessica and great-grandson, Kenton and Ryan Clark, and daughter, Sarah Clark, of White Pine, Tenn.; stepson, Mattson Lewis, his wife, Reese Lewis, three children, Kenan Lewis, Wheeler Lewis and Mary Mattson Lewis; two sisters, Becky Train Stimson and Phyllis Train Applewhite.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Second Presbyterian Church at 700 Pine St., Chattanooga, TN 37402 with Dr. Perry McCallen officiating.

Tommy Hobbs
Thomas Cooper Hobbs, 61, of North Augusta, S.C., passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at his home.
Tommy was born in Chattanooga Jan. 6, 1949. Tommy earned his master degree in library science at the University of Kentucky and was assistant professor at the University of South Carolina, Aiken. He was a faithful member of the Quaker faith and a member of the Society of Professional Obituary Writers.

Howard Honeycutt Sr.
Howard W. Honeycutt Sr., 88, of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. After a brief but courageous battle with cancer, he left this walk of life in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Elma Jackson
Elma Kennebrew Jackson passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
She was born June 21, 1928 in Decatur, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Kennebrew and Maggie Kennebrew McCray; husband, Thomas Jackson; brother, William Kennebrew; and sister, Johnnie Kennebrew Taylor.
She was well loved by Tammy and family and at Life Care Centers. She will be missed.
Elma is survived by two brothers, Archie Kennebrew and Fred (Cheryl) McCray, both of Chattanooga; devoted friends, Tammy Hill and family.

Sue Painter
Laura Sue Gaston Painter met with her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
Sue became a Christian when she was nine years old. She was a 1951 graduate of Etowah High School where she was a cheerleader. Sue was a member of New Salem Baptist Church where her husband the Rev. Ted Painter served as pastor for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James T. and Nell Gaston; and her siblings, James Taylor Gaston Jr., Margaret Brown, Sarah Sherrill, Bob Gaston and Durl Mart Gaston.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. Ted Painter and was very proud of her devoted family, which includes her daughter, Penny and three grandchildren, Ashton Daniel (Darrell) Pittman, Hunter Daniel and Laura Daniel; a special little girl, Lana Pittman, her great-granddaughter; and a lifetime friend, Katherine Harolson.
Services for Sue will be held at 11 a.m. today at the North Chapel with the Rev. Alan Rogers, the Rev. Bill Freeney and the Rev. Charlie Robertson officiating.
Burial will follow in National Cemetery with Gary Brown, Mike Stiles, Royce Raines, Gregg Stiles, Tommy Burton and Ronnie Fisher serving as pallbearers.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dan Cox, Donald Pritchett, Johnny Askew and the Harvester's Sunday School Class.

Virginia Paul
Virginia Elizabeth Lowry Paul, 96, of Signal Mountain, passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010.
Affectionately known as Vova, meaning grandmother in Portuguese, she was daughter of the late Benjamin DeForest and Mary Elfrieda Wood Lowry and had direct ties to the earliest settlers of the area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman LaFayette Paul, artist and teacher, former Hamilton County Property Assessor and director of the Dale Carnegie Courses.
Well known for her talent, she began teaching professionally at age eleven and never flagged in her enthusiasm for the dance. She graduated from Central High School in 1930 during the Great Depression. When other young women were barely able to complete high school, she earned BA and BS degrees from the University of Chattanooga and an MS in Physical Education and Dance from the University of Wisconsin.
There she studied dance under Margaret H'Doubler and in Chicago and New York was influenced by George Balanchine and Michel Fokine. Locally she was Assistant to Miss Inez Hyder. She performed as a member of the Tivoli Ballet and on stage in countless other venues. Mrs. Paul was Associate Director of the Cotton Ball for over 10 years and choreographed all of the programming.
During her 40+ year professional career, she taught dance in her own Studio and taught physical education in over a dozen public and private schools and institutions in the Chattanooga/Hamilton County area. Among the better known were U.S. Army and Civilian Conservation Corps, Hamilton Co. Adult Education Programs, Kirkman Vocational, The Frye Institute of Chadex Conservatory, YWCA, City High, Central High, GPS, and the University of Chattanooga.
Mrs. Paul was well versed in the history of both Chattanooga and Signal Mountain and became one of the area's more respected and honored citizens. She was a senior member of Union Chapel -- "Little Brown Church" -- of Walden's Ridge, attended Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, served as Chaplain of Walden's Ridge Guild, held offices in the S.M. Genealogical Society, and was a member of the UDC.
She was mother to Karen Nita Paul Stone (Charles B. III), of Walden, Tenn., and Don DeForest Paul, of Hollywood, Calif., and foster mother to Sylvia Andrade (Antonio) of Saı Paulo, Brazil. She was Vova to four grandchildren, Sherman Paul Stone (Dana), Kristina Lowry Stone Sanders (Joshua London), Mary Catherine Stone Carey (Bruce) and Charles Andrew Stone (Mirna) and to her foster granddaughter, Paula Tonini (Antonio) who was named after her. She leaves her legacy to 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Vova attained her wish to give her body to science.
No immediate services are planned.
An "Accentuate the Positive" party will be held in her honor at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010.
Her wishes were that any gestures of sympathy be directed as contributions to the Friends of Moccasin Bend National Park, P.O. Box 4953, Chattanooga, TN 37405.
Grover Petty
Grover C. Petty, 88, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mr. Petty retired from Cavalier Corporation after more than 30 years of service. He was a life-long resident of Soddy-Daisy and was a member of Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church. Grover was a very special uncle and dear to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Petty and Hester Morgan Petty; sisters, Helen Wright and Lucille Hodge; brothers, Montague Petty; Walter Reno, Tom Reno and Carl Reno.
Survivors include his nieces and nephews who were like his own children, Darlene and Jim Varner; George and Patty Wright; Don and Gayla Wright, Ron and Linda Wright.
Additional survivors are his sister, Louise Fuller Green; several other nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Lois Jones and Nancy Marquez.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Legacy Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Mike Young officiating.
Interment will follow in Coleman Cemetery with military honors. Soddy-Daisy Senior Neighbors will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Jane Reeder
Jane Beasley Reeder, 79, of Chattanooga, died Monday, March 1, 2010, in a local hospital.
A native of Florence, Ala., she was the daughter of the late William Marvin and Stella Beasley Reeder.
Jane earned a Bachelor of Science degree from East Tenessee State University in Music Education and a minor in Instrumental music. She earned a master of science degree from University of Tennessee Knoxville in Music Education and minors in Fine Arts (voice), Music Theory and Instrumental music. She also attended Birmingham Southern, University of Michigan, University of West Virginia, Oberlin Conservatory and UTC.
She taught orchestra and choir at West High School, Knoxville as well as choirs and started an orchestral program at both Red Bank and Ooltewah High Schools and developed a music department at Chattanooga State Community College where she taught for 20 years.
Jane sang four years with the Chattanooga Opera Association and played the role of Kate Pinkerton in Madam Butterfly. She has written a manuscript called Reeder's of the South and East, Vol.2 and is a certified genealogist having researched the Reeder, Harris, Abernathy, Hackworth, Dunbar, Harrison, Williams Jones, Smith, Booth, Beasley and Houston families.
She held memberships with Alpha Omicron Pi Fraternity, Alpha Delta Kappa, Who's Who in American Education, Music Education National Conference, Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, Who's Who in South and Southeast, NDAR, National Band and Orchestra Association.
She is survived by several cousins.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Josh Rochester officiating.

James Edward "Jimbo" Scoggins, 49, of Birchwood, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Skyridge Medical Center in Cleveland.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #175 and will be greatly missed by his family.
He was the beloved son of David and Lorene Scoggins. Other survivors include two brothers, David Scoggins Jr., Benton, Tenn., and Tommy Scoggins, Birchwood; sister and her husband, Brenda and Larry Gilreath, Harrison; special nephews, Jason Gilreath and Justin Gilreath; niece Julie Turner; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Virginia Sue "Ginny" Swingle, 61, died Monday, March 1, 2010, in Washington, D.C.
Ginny moved to Washington after graduating from Red Bank High School and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Rev. Grady Woods Jr.
Rev. Grady Woods Jr., 71, of Chattanooga, transitioned to eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010.
He was the former pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist and Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church.
He was a retired butcher at Southern Provision Meat Packing and Armews Co.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Woods Sr.; son, Tony DeMichael Woods; brother, Ira Woods; and his first wife of 30 years, Betty L. Woods.

Ruth Wright
Ruth Toliver Wright, loving mother and grandmother, passed into the Lord's hands on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, in a local hospital.
Ruth was born in Dayton, Tenn., on Nov. 14, 1918 to the late Clarence and Katie Lee Toliver. She was an honor graduate of Rhea County High School and president of her graduating class at William Jennings Bryan College in Dayton. She worked for International Harvester in Chattanooga during World War II and Rhea County in her later years.
Ruth was a loving child of God, who maintained her faith in Jesus Christ and her love for her extended family and friends throughout her life. All who knew her will cherish forever her smile, charm and loving character. She was a wonderful and caring mother to her four sons and a loving and devoted wife to her late husband of 63 years, Frank P. Wright. Ruth made an instant impression on everyone she met with her sweet smile, gentle nature and sense of humor.
Ruth's brothers, Ernest Toliver, William Toliver and Ralph Toliver preceded her into heaven.
She will be sadly missed by her surviving sons, Earl W. Wright II, of Knoxville; Robert (Linda) Wright, of Plant City, Fla., Frank Steven Wright, of Red Bank and Carlton E. (Lynn) Wright, of Hixson; her granddaughters Amanda Wright, of Gainesville, Fla., and Kayleigh Wright of Hixson; her sister, Shirley Sutton, of Daphne, Ala.; several nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Legacy Funeral Home, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road in Soddy-Daisy.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with interment in Hamilton County Memorial Park.

WHITWELL -- Jimmy Edwin Almond, 61, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Woods Memorial Hospital, Etowah, Tenn.
He was born July 6,1948 in Whitwell, Tenn., to the Rev. Elmer and Virginia Almond.
Jimmy was a Vietnam Veteran and served in the Infantry from 1969-1971.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Elmer and Virginia Levan Almond; three brothers, Johnny, David, Joel; grandparents, John and Ethel Levan, Rev. Virgil and Lucille Almond.
Survivors include three brothers, Rev. Bill (Patricia) Almond, Elmer Dwin (Sheila) Almond, Doyle (Lana) Almond; three sisters, Thressa (Alb) Mears, Mary Uselton, Deborah Almond; uncles, Wes Levan, Vernon Levan; aunt, Jewel Levan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SPRING CITY -- Travis H. Barnett Sr., 53, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at his residence.
A lifetime resident of Rhea County, Travis was a graduate of Spring City High School Class of 1974. He was a steamfitter and a 30 year member of the Pipefitters Union Local No. 43 in Chattanooga. Travis was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spring City.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh and Jane Barnett; and maternal grandparents, Lester and Lena Travis.
Survivors include his parents, Ted H. and Shirley Travis Barnett, of Spring City; son, Haskell Barnett, of Victoria, Texas; brother, Lester (Susan) Barnett, of Knoxville; nephew, Jeremy (Melissa) Barnett, of Madison, Ala.; and special cousin, Hugh Jack (Nancy) Barnett, of Spring City.

SPRING CITY -- Agnes B. Maddux, 91, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the Spring City Care Center.
Born in Shelby, N.C., she was the youngest of seven children of the late John Thomas and Estell Lavender Borders. Agnes and her husband, James, moved to the Rhea County community in 1937. She retired from the Tennessee Deportment of Health-Speech and Hearing Services as regional director after 30 years of service. Agnes was member of Spring City United Methodist Church and the "Prayer Shawl Ministry". She loved to travel, play bridge and research genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Otis Maddux Sr.; son, James Otis Maddux II and several brothers and sisters, including her sister, Jessie B. Skinner.
Survivors include her son, John (Susan) Maddux, of Spring City; grandchildren, Rebecca Wilson serving in the U. S. Army, Iraq and Jay Maddux, of Cookeville, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Evan Horton, both of Grandview.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Wyrick officiating.
Interment will follow in Spring City Memorial Gardens.
