Zach Mettenberger has fallen behind in that aspect.
The 18-year-old redshirt freshman was charged with underage possession of alcohol and two counts of disorderly conduct following an arrest early Sunday morning at the Flip Flops bar in Remerton, Ga. Mettenberger also was charged with two counts of possessing false identification.
A Georgia athletic department official said Richt was out of town Monday but was aware of Mettenberger's arrest and soon would be getting details on the incident. The university is on spring break, and the football team will not resume spring practice until next Tuesday.
Mettenberger is competing with Logan Gray and Aaron Murray for the starting job.
Under Georgia athletic association policy, players arrested on alcohol-related charges are suspended for 10 percent of the upcoming season. The Bulldogs open Sept. 4 against Louisiana-Lafayette and play Sept. 11 at South Carolina.
