MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — After trailing at halftime, Arts & Sciences girls’ basketball team used a strong third quarter to take control and claimed a 58-39 victory over Scotts Hill in the quarterfinals of the Class A state tournament Wednesday afternoon.
Lady Patriots’ leading scorer Kayla Kelly was held scoreless in the first half, but with 5:52 left in the third she converted a steal into a three-point play that put the Lady Patriots up for the first time since the opening minute of the second quarter.
She finished with 10 points.
A 13-0 run in the final 3:55 of the third quarter put CSAS ahead by nine, and it continued the scoring run into the fourth, holding the Lady Lions without a field goal for eight minutes before Brittany Montgomery’s 3-pointer with 4:21 remaining. By that time, CSAS had built its lead to 12 and the cushion remained in double-digits the rest of the way.
CSAS will play the Moore County-Wayne County winner in Friday’s semifinal at 12:30 at Middle Tennessee State University’s Murphy Center.
