MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Madison Lee scored a season-high 30 points to lead top-ranked McMinn Central to a 65-53 victory over Greeneville in the Class AA state tournament quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Middle Tennessee State University.
The Chargerettes will play eighth-ranked Westview on Friday at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern) in the semifinals. Westview defeated Lewis County 57-47 Thursday.
Lee carried the offensive load for much of the first half while leading scorer and rebounder Jenna Adams sat out more than 10 minutes with foul trouble. Lee scored 13 of her team's 17 first-quarter points.
Adams scored the team's first two points on a pair of free throws but was held scoreless the rest of the half. She sat out the final 3:34 of the first quarter with two fouls then was called for her third 20 seconds into the second quarter.
Without Adams, a 6-foot-2 junior post, McMinn Central was outrebounded 20-10 in the first half and led by seven at halftime.
She returned and scored the Chargerettes first six points of the second half, leading an 8-2 run that put them in command to stay. Adams finished with 11 points.
