Officers caught men and charged them in connection with two burglaries that occurred at the same time today just 5 miles apart, according to Chattanooga police.
About 11:40 a.m. a police investigator saw three males climbing through a window at a residence at 2300 North Chamberlain Ave, according to a police department news release. When the investigator approached the residence, the men fled, the release states.
The investigator caught Darius Jamehl Oates, 32, at the scene and two other suspects, both juveniles, were captured in the area by patrol officers, said officer Rebecca Royval, spokeswoman for the police department. All three suspects were charged with aggravated burglary, she said.
In Brainerd at 11:44 a.m. officers responded to a call from neighbors about suspicious activity and a possible burglary in progress at 4619 Montview Drive, according to a news release. The witness gave police a description of three suspects seen leaving in a vehicle before police arrived, the release states.
Officers spotted the vehicle in the 3900 block of Rodgers Road and caught two suspects after receiving calls about suspicious parties running through the area, Officer Royval said. Derrick Carnes, 27, and Eddie Collins, 26, were taken into custody by police, she said.
Mr. Carnes confessed to the burglary on Montview Drive as well as one at 122 Shawnee Trail, Officer Royval said. He was charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of theft and one count of vandalism.
The stolen property from both residences was recovered, Officer Royval said.
