Body found in Chattooga River

A man’s body was found floating in the Chattooga River on Friday and police are treating the case as a homicide, said Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett.

The black male, whose identity is still unknown, was found floating in the river off Lyerly Dam Road in Lyerly, Ga. Sheriff Everett said the man’s body was sent to the crime lab in Atlanta and police are still waiting on a positive identification.

“We are treating it as a homicide at this time,” he said.
