Richard Anderson

Richard Babb Anderson, 72, of Chattanooga, died on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at his residence.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, a graduate of The Bright School, The McCallie School and Auburn University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and completed graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Virginia.

Richard served in the Air National Guard and was a member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, where he attended the Morgan Sunday School Class. Richard was a former member of the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club and the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club. He was a retired Executive with Wacker Chemical and had previously worked with various Textile and Chemical companies.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Anderson and Mary Ruth Babb Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Spratlin Anderson; sons, Michael A. Anderson and wife, Tracy, Chattanooga and C. David Anderson and wife, Cheryl, Florence, S.C.; sister, Jacquelyn Ingersoll, Ocean Shores, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Leslie Anne Anderson, Clayton M. Anderson and Jonathan David Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at noon today, March 13, at First-Centenary United Methodist Church with Dr. David Harr and Dr. Dwight Kilborne officiating.

Frances Biddle

Frances Jean Biddle, 85, of Signal Mountain, died Wednesday evening, March 10, 2010, at Alexian Village, Signal Mountain.

A native of Athens and a long time resident of the Chattanooga area, she was the daughter of the late Hugh H. Sr. and Belle Evans Biddle.

She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1944 and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from George Peabody College. She returned to T.W.C following a tour of duty with the U.S. Army, to teach Physical Education and coach Women's basketball, from 1959-66. She served on the Moccasin Bend Girl Scout Council as District Director and as the first summer director of Camp Adahi. She joined the Physical Education Department at the then University of Chattanooga and was named UTC Professor of the year. She retired in 1978, but continued volunteer work for the Girls Scouts, The nature center and Senior Neighbors in Chattanooga.

Survivors include her brother, Hugh "Buddy" Biddle and a number of cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennie Humphreys officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Katie Cope

Katie Lee Cope, 86, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Ms. Cope was a Charter Member of East Daisy Church of God and was very faithful in her attendance. She retired from Standard-Coosa-Thatcher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Drophia Cope; parents, Mansford and Ester Hale and seven brothers, Sherman Hale, Gene Hale, Haskell Hale, Carl Hale, J.C. Hale, Sidney Hale and Mark Hale.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Roy (Elaine) Cope; daughters, Lynda Moore, Pam (Terrell) Horton; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at East Daisy Church of God, with the Rev. Byron Henderson officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton County Memorial Park.

Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today.

Jo Janes, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 in a local hospital.

Harold Johns

Harold E. Johns, 78, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 11, 2010.

He was the son of the late Howell Johns Sr., and Bertie Glover Johns and was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nell Eaves Johns.

Harold grew up in the Kingspoint area of Chattanooga and graduated from Tyner High School in 1950. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea during that conflict and upon returning home he worked at Dupont where he retired after 40+ years.

He served his family, church, country and community with much dedication and helped to influence the lives of many people in the Chattanooga area. He will be greatly missed but is at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praise be to God.

He was a member of Duncan Park Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his son, Shawn E. Johns; three sisters, Anna (Raymond) Bowman, of Ooltewah, Betty Burrows, of Hixson, Joy (Fred) Gaston, of East Ridge; two brothers, Franklin (Brenda) Johns, of Apison, Tenn., Sonny Johns, of Chattanooga; three sisters-in-law, Anna Klein, of Chattanooga, Judy Cocoris, of California, Betty Jo Smith, of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, George Eaves, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Jackson and the Rev. Bill Gustafson officiating.

Interment will be in Tyner Cemetery.

Loretta Mangham

Loretta Mangham made her earthly transition on Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

She was born March 5, 1942 to Jonah and Catherine Mangham. Loretta was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served faithfully in the Mass Choir and the Trustee Ministry. She was formerly employed for many years at Central Soya/Seaboard Farms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonah and Catherine Mangham; and great-niece, Morgan Mangham.

She leaves to cherish her memories one brother, Jonah Lee Mangham; three sisters, Joann and Carolyn Mangham and Clemmie McWhorter, all of Chattanooga; one uncle, Bob C. Ward, of Five Points, Ala.; two aunts, Lucille Finch and Addie Garner, Indianapolis, Ind.; five devoted nieces and nephews, Angela Grimes, Cherryl Mangham, Cynthia (Pastor Kevin L.) Adams, Terrill Mangham and Frank (Karen) Craven; devoted great-nieces and nephews, Jerrial, Justin (Kierra), Natasha, Kevin, Jr., Ashley, Alexis, Monekia, Akira, Kortney; and great-great-nieces, Makaila and Autumn; special friends, Diane Gilbert Williams, Beulah Stoudemire, Bernice Chunn, Diane Williams and a host of other relatives and friends. Loretta was devoted to God, her family and those near and dear to her. She will be greatly missed.

Nina Jacqueline Rader, 73, of Hixson, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at a local hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Allan Stewart officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Asbury Cemetery in Knoxville.

Lela Spears

Lela Jones Spears, 83, transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, after an extended illness.

She was born Nov. 9, 1926 to the late Percy and Willie Jones. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

She retired from the original Bi-Lo on Alton Park Blvd. and UTC. She was a faithful member of St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church and past president of the Sanctuary Choir.

Mrs. Spears was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Spears; daughter, Peggy Spears; grandson, Anthony Spears; three brothers, David, Paul and West; and three sisters, Annie, Rose, and Mary Ella.

Survivors include her beloved daughters, Gloria Spears and Beverly (Johnny) Johnson; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Willard (Eunice) Jones, all of Chattanooga; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2 p.m. at St. Elmo M.B. Church, with Pastor Billy E. Church officiating.

Interment in National Cemetery on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10 a.m.

Juanita Tipton

Juanita Snyder Tipton, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at a local nursing facility.

She was a native of Catoosa County, and lived in the Chattanooga area for many years, and retired from the Chattanooga Regional History Museum.

She was the widow of the late Earl T. Tipton.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond J. and Pauline Huff Snyder; her first husband, David "Bud" Chastain; and brother, Orwyn Snyder.

Mrs. Tipton was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for more than 44 years.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Terry T. and Connie Tipton, of Lookout Valley; three grandchildren, Terry Tipton II, of Zeeland, Mich.; Amber Tipton and Katie Tipton, of Lookout Valley; great-granddaughter, Aurora Dwyer, of Chattanooga; a niece, Sherry Brown, of Chattanooga; and one great-nephew.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Memory Gardens South, Rossville.

Dall Brown

JASPER -- Dallas Berry "Dall" Brown, 88, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, in a local hospital.

He was a lifelong member of McKendree United Methodist Church where he served as a teacher for many years and past superintendent of Sunday Schools. He served on various local committees including the Marion County Planning Commission and the Jasper Water Board. Mr. Brown was a former graduate, teacher and athletic coach at Marion County High School and former principal of Jasper Elementary School.

He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University where he played football and baseball and received a degree in accounting in 1943. He later did post-graduate work at Peabody College in Nashville. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He owned and operated Brown Hardware Co. in Jasper for many years and was also a member of Olive Branch Lodge #297 F&AM and the York Rite Bodies.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, N.H. and Veda Berry Brown; sister, Harold Brown Price; and brothers, Holland Brown and Kenneth P. Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Flowers Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Anne Brown, of Jasper; son, Jeff Brown, of Chattanooga; sisters, Lila Cureton, of Jasper, Suzy Raulston, of Nashville, and Carolyn Thompson, of Jasper; grandchildren, Andy Brown and Holly Brown; great-granddaughter, Dixie Elizabeth Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation at McKendree United Methodist Church, 106 Highway 150 in Jasper, Tenn., from 10 a.m. CST until service time on Monday, March 15, 2010.

Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 1 p.m. CST at McKendree United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Ramsey officiating.

Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Jasper.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Tabernacle. Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Queen Thompson; husband, John Ellis; son, Glenn Ellis; granddaughter, Regina Ellis; and grandson, Glen Lamar Ellis.

Survivors are daughters, Flaudia Price, Yvonne (Mark) Mayfield and Jo-Ann (William R.) Quarles; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

James Llewellyn Sr.

DOUGLASVILLE -- James C. Llewellyn Sr., 90, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at his home in Douglasville.

He was born Nov. 17, 1919. He was son of the late William and Martha Elizabeth Cantrell Llewellyn of Chattanooga. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Coleman Llewellyn.

Survivors include wife, Ereline Llewellyn, of Douglasville; five daughters, Joan Ashley, of East Ridge, Jean (Rocky) Leonhardt, of Clarksville, Tenn., Judy (J.W.) Johnson, of Rossville, Diane Frye, of Tennessee and Shanda Hayes, of Douglasville; four sons, James C. (Birdie) Llewellyn Jr., of Columbia, Tenn., Jerry (Judy) Llewellynn, George Sr. (Linda) Llewellynn and John Llewellyn, all of Rossville; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Martin Nethery

TRENTON -- Martin "PaPooh" Allison Nethery, 89, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010.

He was a lifelong resident of Dade County and graduated from Dade County High School in 1938. He served in WWII in Alaska as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Shortly after leaving the military he returned to Dade County where he owned the Western Auto Store in Trenton for several years before his employment with the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. He retired from the Postal Service in 1986.

He was an active member of the community and a member of several civic organizations. He was a member of Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Grady and Grace Allison Nethery; a brother, James Grady Nethery Jr.; and son, Michael James Nethery.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Val Nethery; daughters, Patricia Nethery (Anthony) Emanuel, of Dade County, Dana Allison Nethery, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; son, K Paul (Carolyn) Nethery, of Dade County; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. EST at Saint Katherine Drexel Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton, Ga.

BRYANT -- Bradley Paul Hartline, 26, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010.

He was a self employed diesel mechanic. Bradley was a loving husband, father and loved the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Regina Hartline; and grandparents, Rinzy and Azlee Hartline.

Survivors include his loving wife, Billie Jean "B.J." CHANTILLY, Va. -- Mary Vance Wallace Stuart, 94, died at home in Chantilly on Thursday, March 11, 2010.

An Elementary school teacher for more than 30 years, Mrs. Stuart was educated at Florence State Teacher's College and was a member at Centreville Presbyterian Church in Centreville, Va.

Mrs. Stuart was preceded in death by her parents, Vance Tellis and Laura Belle Derryberry Wallace; and her husband, Raymond N. Stuart.

Survivors include her son, Wally (Peggy) Stuart, of Chantilly; grandchildren, Ray (Dawn) Stuart, of Chantilly and Laura (Gary) Reidenbach, of Kailua, Hawaii; great-granddaughter, Lyndsy Marie Stuart, of Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md.; sister-in-law, Louise Stuart Philmon, of Fairfax, Va.; brother-in-law, Bill (Alicia) Stuart, of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; and nephew, Milton (Carol) Wallace, of Sonoma, Calif.
