LaFayette library hosts ShamROCK

North Georgia bands Third Degree, Rose and Aaron Carlton played to a full house of teens Friday night at ShamROCK, an afterhours concert hosted by the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library.

The audience enjoyed tunes by Matchbox 20, Tom Petty, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Taylor Swift and other artists. Midconcert the teens played a few rounds of MTV's "Silent Library" game with fireball-eating contests and a green Jello-drinking contest to mark St. Patrick's Day.

Attendees enjoyed pizza from Dominos and Pizza Hut and drinks from Walmart, and three winners received iTunes gift cards. The evening's grand prize, chosen from those who signed up for the event on Facebook, was two pins to this year's Riverbend Festival. They were won by Jake Ellis of LaFayette.

The concert, planned by library teen specialist Chelsea Kovalevskiy, was filmed by staff members for a documentary to be entered in a national competition sponsored by author James Patterson's Read Kiddo Read Foundation.

Ms. Kovalevskiy's program already is among 10 semifinalists nationwide, and if the video wins, the LaFayette-Walker County Library will receive $2,500 to be spent on its young adult collection.
