Etowah doctor on probation

An Etowah, Tenn., doctor has been disciplined by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners for his prescribing practices.

Dr. James Brendan Durkin's license has been placed on probation for five years for "prescribing unjustified quantities of controlled substances for a patient with whom he had an inappropriate relationship," according to a release from the Tennessee Department of Health, which is required to make public disciplinary actions by health-related boards.
