House considers ending pickup seat belt exemption

ATLANTA — The House could decide to approve a bill that would force pickup drivers to buckle up, thus ending Georgia's distinction as the last state in the union to have such an exemption.

Senators passed the bill last week with little opposition. Rural lawmakers have blocked the bill in previous years as an unnecessary regulation, but the bill could have new life under the House's new leadership.

Georgia would become eligible for federal incentive grants if the legislation passes.
