Walmart plans grand reopening

After three months of renovations, the Walmart on Gunbarrel Road is set to celebrate its grand reopening today beginning at 8 a.m.

Changes to the Walmart include wide aisles, a new layout, enhanced lighting and an expanded electronics section.

"The new layout is easier to navigate, which will save our customers time as they shop for necessities," said Allen Pilkington, store manager.

A total of $5,000 in grants from the Walmart Foundation will be given to area organizations, and Mayor Ron Littlefield will attend.

House passes Caulkers bill

WASHINGTON - Homeowners could collect thousands of dollars in Cash for Caulkers rebates for renovating their homes with better insulation and energy-saving windows and doors under a new economic stimulus bill the House passed Thursday.

The Home Star bill, passed 246-161, would authorize $5.7 billion over two years for a program that supporters - mostly Democrats - said would have the added benefits of invigorating the slumping construction industry.
