Whole Foods Market Inc. plans to buy the Greenlife stores in Chattanooga and Asheville, N.C.
The Greenlife grocery in Chattanooga is located at Two North Shore on Manufacturers Road.
Chuck Pruett opened the original Greenlife in Chattanooga on Hixson Pike in Riverview in 1999 and then relocated it to the North Shore in November 2007.
He and Asheville business partner John Swann opened the Asheville store in 2004.
Whole Foods is an Austin, Texas-based chain that describes itself as the “world’s leader in natural and organic foods.” It has more than 270 stores in North America and the United Kingdom.

Oh, no. This is terrible news. I am a regular (almost daily) shopper at Green Life. I am boycotting Whole Foods (Whole Paycheck) and will continue to do so. The CEO, John Mackey, doesn't think global warming is real citing there is no real consensus on it and that it could lead to more taxes and increased regulation.
Gee, John, most of your shoppers are smarter than this. As for increased regulation? Isn't it about time we regulated pollution? EPA has been gutted so bad it is the foxes in the henhouse. Just look at the mess in the Gulf. Green Life always supported clean energy and living, this is just sad.
One more thing: if he is so against regulation for a clean environment, one has to wonder if there food is really organic.
GreenLife's prices are even more outrageous than WholeFoods. GreenLife and other gougers just don't get it. They locate in wealthy neighborhoods, thinking that the wealthy will support their business. Whole Foods does careful studies of their demographic and realized long ago that working class stiffs and different shades of the middle-class also like to purchase and eat organic/natural foods. They have more and frequent sales than GL.
The Left threatened to boycott Mackey's stores for stating what thousands of climate scientists/metereologists have been stating: that Al Gored-everybody-for billions-of-dollars is/was a fake and so are the so-called 'studies' he quoted and the 'scientists' he used. "Most" intelligent people do NOT buy the Left's idiotic ideologies and STILL are shopping at all Mackeys stores in CA, CO and elsewhere. I'm sure he's not hurting financially.
It's the retail outfits that try to cram an ideology down our throats, while we're spending money, that will be worse for the wear. GreenLife, like all Progressive "experiments" deserved to fail-it gouged its customers big-time.
PS: some of you desperately need to do further research on the Cap n Trade Bill as well as what the EPA in this country is now doing and by whom. Al-Gored and a whole host of 'Operative Investors' including Michelle and Barack Obama, Joel Rogers, Valerie Jarrett, George Soros, Van Jones, et al, have heavily invested in a nefarious trillion dollar money-maker, located on the Chicago Stock Exchange, that will siphon taxpayers dollars into the 'Green' carbon-offset Company(s), enriching all those involved. Now that's what I call "Evil Capitalistic Progressives", so compassionate, sooo caring about our "Environment". So kind to the American people. Think I'll stick with the Mackeys. They're way smarter, by a long shot.

This is great news. Whole Foods has a much better selection and much lower prices. As an aside, to all of the commenters on climate change, please do not comment on topics that you know little about...you are embarrassing yourselves.
The climate is changing. We will see the results on November 2, 2010!
This just in, the Bill that was "cap 'n trade" was recently changed to the "america project act". Before cap, it was the "climate change" Bill. Just curious, if these Progressive bills are so 'transparent' and so 'good' for America, why do the Dems keep having to change their names and make the contents even more hidden and devious?
Mackey, you're lookin smarter and smarter as each day goes by. Welcome! Whole Foods.
Oz, that was funny.. made me laugh out loud
