DUNLAP: Veterans memorial project discussed

The United States Armed Forces Day is today and is a special day to remember those who have or currently are serving our great nation. A local group met on May 3 to discuss a Sequatchie County Veterans Memorial project. The Sequatchie County School board has approved the use of approximately one acre of ground located near the corner of Highway 28 and Cordell Lane for the project. The goal is to complete it within the next two years.

The project is in need of donations and will be fully funded by individuals and without relying on tax dollars. Donations may be in the form of in-kind labor, fuel or cash. The funds will be administered through the local Education Foundation and contributions of $100 or more may be used as deductions on your taxes. Cash or checks of $100 or more may be sent to: Sequatchie County Education Foundation, Attn: Johnny Cordell, P. O. Box 488, Dunlap, TN 37327.

Other donations may be sent to Tommy Hickey, call him at 423-949-8423. Any other questions may be addressed to the Sequatchie County-Dunlap Chamber of Commerce at 423-949-7608.

National Tourism week will be Sunday through Saturday and our neighbors to the north in Crossville, Tenn., will have a daylong event on May 22 starting at 11:30 a.m. with a walking tour of the city. There will be a classic car cruise and music between 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Visit the 2010 Library Art Exhibition at the Dunlap Training Center from Tuesday through Saturday. More than 20 talented local artists will be on exhibit. A different resident artist will be present each day, showing visitors how they create their work.
