A Volkswagen official says construction of its plant's paint shop remains on schedule despite the bankruptcy of a Chattanooga company that was supplying structural steel for the project.
The Chapter 7 filing of Southern Fabrication Contractors is prompting an assessment of the company's actions, said Guenther Scherelis, VW's general manager of communication in Chattanooga.
Southern Fabrication was a "sub-supplier" to VW, which is building a $1 billion auto assembly plant in Chattanooga slated to start production early next year.
