Larry Allen Finney, 64, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at his residence.

He was a retired Captain from the Chattanooga Police Dept., and was a member of New Shepherd Hill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by parents, Charles Finney and Norma Savannah Finney.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Finney; son, Michael Finney; daughter, Mary Finney; Jerry Finney; sisters, Gail Finney and Deborah Finney; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth S. Fitch, 80, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

Doris George

Doris Reed George, 79, of Chattanooga, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.

She was the daughter of the late Clifford and Francis Little Reed. Doris was a YMCA Camp Ocoee worker for several years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Charles George Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Charles Homer (Denise) George III and Michael Lee (Onecia) George; five grandchildren, Leanne Feagins, Coby George, Bennett George, David George and Nathan George.

Don Haley Sr.

Don Haley Sr., 66, of Chattanooga, joined the Lord on Friday, May 14, 2010.

Don was strong in his faith in the Lord and stands by Him now. He was scouted in high school for his pitching arm by the majors until a break mishap ended his ballplaying career. Don was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was in the restaurant business for many years serving as manager of The Longhorn's across the Chattanooga area and the Town & Country Restaurant in Dalton, Ga. He was former president of the Chattanooga Restaurant Association. He was a gracious host and loved interacting with his customers and friends throughout the years.

He will be greatly missed and dearly remembered by his family, friends, and brothers and sisters at Deliverance Outreach Ministries. He loved you all tremendously.

Don was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Hassie Maw Haley; great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Luther and Flora Mae Sprouse; father, Charles Haley; sister, Jean Bates; mother, Bonnie Haley; and wife, Delilah.

Survivors include his brother, Jerry Haley and his wife, Peggy and their children and grandchildren, brother, Steve Haley and his wife, Linda and their children and grandchildren, his aunt, Ruby White, and grandchildren, son, Larry Don Haley Jr., grandson, Dylan; daughter, Crista Michelle Shelton, grandson, Grayson, and granddaughter, Lela, daughter, Amy Cherene Haley, and her sons, Tanner and Jessie, and by son, Shannon, grandson, Blane; and other relatives and many friends.

George Huff

George Huff's last flight was taken on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, just ten days short of his 91st birthday.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot, flying with both the 301st and 454th bomber groups in the European theater of operations. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Clusters for his valor after 50 heroic missions over Europe.

He was a Chattanooga native and graduate of Central High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in accounting. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, then Southern Railway, after many years of service.

He was a long time resident of Signal Mountain. His church affiliation was with Signal Mountain Baptist Church, having been a member for 42 years. The last three years of his life were spent as a resident of Summit View Assisted Living. His family wishes to thank the staff and administration of Summit View for helping him to have some quality of life during his long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Morgan and Ethel Haun Huff; and a brother, J. Roddy Huff.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Ernestine Huff; daughter, Charlotte Huff-Fogel (Arthur); son, Clint Huff; sister, Trophine Davis, of Brookhaven, Miss.; brother, Robert Huff (Herta), of Redondo Beach, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Anne Huff, of Signal Mountain and Barbara Meacham, of Farmington, N.M.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Signal Mountain Baptist Church Chapel. The Reverends Sally Ensley and Steven Wright will officiate.

The family will receive friends before and after the service at the chapel.

Burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery in Smyrna, Tenn. on Sunday, May 23, with military honors.

John Kovacevich Jr.

Major John D. Kovacevich Jr., USMC (Ret), 60, of Crofton, Md., passed away Monday, May 17, 2010.

He was the son of Margaret Kovacevich and husband of Sharon Pfeiffer; father of Sam and Marci.

Philip Lang III

William Philip Lang III, 71, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at his home after a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Philip and Sarah Nevin Lang. Philip was born in Cleveland, Tenn., and was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. A graduate of the Baylor School, he attended the University of Tennessee and the University of Chattanooga.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha Nichols Lang; his son, William Philip Lang, IV, and his wife, Stacey; his daughter, Elizabeth Lang Jones and her husband, Walker; and three grandchildren, Nevin Jones, Walker Jones and Bobby Jones who affectionately called him "Hi Daddy." He is also survived by his sister, Amelia Lang Hodges and her husband, Sandy.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in National Cemetery with the Rev. William Keith officiating.

Paul Lappin

Paul E. Lappin, 85, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010.

Paul was born in Sewanee, Tenn., and served our country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He retired from DeSoto Chemicals and attended Northside Baptist Church.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Ethel Lappin; and a brother, Joseph Lappin.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Long Lappin; two daughters, Paulette Tessmann, of Murfreesboro and Teresa Lappin, of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, P.J. (Kelly Ann) Tessmann, Tara (Kelly) Jones, Jo (Rick) Young and Casey (Chris) Pianta; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel.

Services for Paul will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the North Chapel with the Rev. Mitchell Reaves officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Margaret Rodery

Margaret Ragan Rodery, 82, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, in a local hospital.

She was a member of the Church of Christ and the former manager of the Golden Gallon at Soddy Lake.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Pearl Sparks; husbands, Carl Cash Ragan Jr. and Curtis William Rodery; daughter, Martha Jane "Sissy" Hendon Witt; grandson, Carl Cash "Cary" Ragan IV; and brothers, Don and David Sparks.

She is survived by her sons, Carl Cash Ragan III (Karen), of Knoxville, Charles William "Bill" Rodery (Paula), of Hixson, David Curtis Rodery (Debra), of Soddy-Daisy; stepchildren, Brenda Rodery and Kathy Headrick; grandchildren, Carl Clarence Hendon, Franklin Allen Hendon, Franci Denise Raines (Ricky), Jonathan Curtis Rodery; sister, Dorothy Satterfield along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Minister Jerry Clements officiating.

Burial will follow at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Irene Vallieres

Irene E. Vallieres, 94, of Apison, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at a local health care facility.

Mrs. Vallieres was born in Toronto Ontario, Canada and was formerly from Berrien Springs, Mich. She worked at the Berrien Bindery, as did her late husband, Calvin Vallieres. She was a member of McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church and was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Vallieres.

Surviving relatives, son, Ron (Marilyn) Vallieres, Apison, Tenn.; daughters, Donna (Larry) Williams, Ocoee, Tenn., Charlene (Tom) Harmon, Chattanooga; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Marian Watkins

Marian Dawn Watkins, 49, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willard "Bill" Watkins Sr.; and her mother, Alice Watkins.

Survivors include two daughters, Bethany Watkins Moore and Gina McCommon; three grandsons, Buford and Matthew Reyna and Bradley McCommon; two granddaughters, Jordan and Emily McCommon; seven sisters; two brothers; several nieces and nephews and her faithful friend and dog, Einstein.

Mary Gray Wooten, 60, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2010.

She was born in Roseboro, N.C., daughter of the late O.C. and Beatrice Jackson and had lived in Hixson for the past 25 years.

Mary was a member of North River Christian Church and was an avid gardener.

Her passion was her three grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, as well as her poodle, Quincy.

Survivors are her husband, Thomas Wooten; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lisa Wooten and Jonathan and Christy Wooten; three grandchildren, Carter, Abigail, and Rebekah, all of Hixson; a brother, Bobby Jackson of North Carolina; a sister, Peggy Fischer of Colorado.

Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Welch officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
