Clyde Blaylock

Clyde Raymond Blaylock, 75, of Hixson, passed away at his refuge, Blaylock Music, on Friday, May 21, 2010.

Clyde was a very gifted musician. He was a well known and award winning bluegrass musician and teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Well loved, thousands of students were privileged to learn to play guitar, banjo and mandolin from him. He held his head high and stayed positive through the hard knocks and good times.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Lottie Blaylock; and brothers, Ralph and Johnny Blaylock.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Blaylock; daughters, Sherry Palmer (Robert), Donna Royse (Sammy), Tammy Hickman (Ervin); sons, Bishop Grant Blaylock (Gretchen), Brian Blaylock; sister, Janie May (Buddy); brother, Paul Blaylock; grandchildren, Michael Frizzell (Angie), Wendy Frizzell, Allen Blaylock (Melissa), Krystle and Lilyana Blaylock, Jessica Clements (Roy), LaShonda Royse and Alicia Hickman; six great-grandchildren; and nephews Edward Blaylock (Nancy) and Jason Blaylock.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Danny Dowden officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Marguerite Jeannine Brown, 75, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School class of 1953 and enjoyed attending the frequent reunions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Brown II; and daughter, Kelly Joanne Brown.

Survivors include her daughter, Frankie Walker, of Soddy-Daisy; son, William (Beatrice) Robert Brown III, of Cedar Rapids, Texas; stepson, Tracy L. (Miki) Brown; brother, James (Shirley) May, of Soddy-Daisy; grandchildren, Kerry D. Dunn; Michael J. Brown, Elesa Ramirez and Garrett R. Brown; and great-grandchildren, Payton M. Walker and Hanna N. Dunn.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, in the Legacy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ken Duggan officiating.

Vera Victoria Clarke, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, at her home.

She and her husband William Herschel Clarke were the owners and operators of Delta Motel and Restaurant and a member of Heritage Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil B. and Ida Rigsby; husband, William Herschel Clarke; and daughter-in-law, Lisa A. Clarke.

She is survived by her son, William Larry Clarke, Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Willie B. Rigsby, Dunlap; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Dean officiating.

Marlene Dennis, 54, of Middle Valley, passed away Thursday May 20, 2010.

Lifelong resident of the Tennessee Valley, she was a devoted daughter, mother, grand mommy, sister, aunt and friend.

She worked for Dr. J. Selzer at Hixson Pike Medical office, member of Central Baptist Church in Hixson and member of the Allemande Hall Cloggers. She loved dancing and enjoying life. Loving, outgoing and loyal to all she knew. She was loved by her family, friends and patients.

Marlene is survived by her daughter, Meredith (Jason) Franks; son, Michael Dennis; two grandchildren, Lillie and Lydia; mother, Willie Meriam Johnson; brother, Steve (Barbara) Johnson; sister, Pam (Stephen) Cormier; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; dog, Scooby.

Services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, May 24, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Brooks officiating.

Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Dimis Dowse

Dr. Dimis "Dee" Dowse, 78, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010.

She was an associate professor in the English Department at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1965-1981 and a professor in the philosophy and religion department from 1982-1996. She retired from UTC in 1996.

She received her BA from Geneva College, Mass., from the University of Chicago and Ph.D. in philosophy from Emory.

She is survived by her cat, Auti; friends, Debarah Harbuck, Nancy Pollard; and caregivers, Sharon Holland and Geraldine Long.

Special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassion and care of Dee.

Alma "Kitty" Ford, 83, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 21, 2010, from a local hospital.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Albert and Lena Price; husband, Henry Thomas Ford; seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her two sons, Lucky (Donna) Ford, of Gunnison, Colo.; Bryan (Mindy) Ford, of Georgetown; daughter, Patricia (John) Seaman, of Ooltewah; two brothers, Alva Price, of Spartanburg, S.C., and William Price, of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bragg officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Charles Gillette

Charles Clifford Gillette, 87, of Hixson, died on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Summitt View Retirement Home.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Mr. Gillette was the son of the late Charles Clifford Gillette Sr. and Camilla Reed Gillette. He was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mr. Gillette was a longtime employee of the E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co., having worked at its plants in Waynesboro, Va., and Chattanooga. He retired from the company in 1981.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Bruner Gillette, of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Betsy Reed Gillette, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Randy Martin of Hixson United Methodist Church officiating.

Aaron Mack "Pete" Gray Sr. went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2010. He passed away in his home in Ooltewah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Sadie Gray; brother, Herbert; sister, Barbara Fugatt; and grandson, Gibson Lee Moore.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 53 years, Nancy Cook Gray; wonderful children, Mack Gray and Krisi and Dennis Moore; and amazing grandchildren, Corey, Hunter, Lexie and Selah; brother, Danny and Juanita Gray; and sister Sheryl and Eugene Myhan; several nieces and nephews.

Ruth Kile

Ruth McDonald Kile went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2010, and is now rejoicing in a new glorified body after a long bout with Alzheimer's disease.

She has that sweet smile and laughter once again that had been taken away from her. Ruth was born Nov. 22, 1927, in McMinn County and moved to Chattanooga when she married Billy Kile, of Decatur, Tenn., and lived the rest of her life here. She was a member of East Ridge Baptist Church and the Naomi Sunday School Class. Ruth was retired from Brock Candy Co. after 29 years of service and was a member of the East Ridge Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Kile; parents, the Rev. C.E. and Stella Wade McDonald; three sisters, Vancil Bankston, Freda Dockery and Wanda McDonald.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann (Leonard) Ezell; two grandsons, Travis Ezell and Tyler Ezell; four brothers, Austin McDonald, Bill McDonald, Charles McDonald and Wade McDonald; one sister, Joyce McDonald; many nieces and nephews.

The last four years of her life were spent at NHC of Fort Oglethorpe and her family would like to thank the staff and administration there for helping her have some quality of life during her last years.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road with the Rev. Robert Humphreys officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East with Bruce Vincent, Tim Jennings, Jeff Ezell, Mickey McCormick, Ryan Buckner and Reece Martin serving as pallbearers.

Ilianna Alia Parra, infant daughter of Adalberto and Yecenia Parra, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, in a Nashville Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ania Alexa Parra.

Survivors include her parents; two brothers, Adrian Parra and Alexander Parra; paternal grandparents, Jilberto and Maria Parra; maternal grandparents, Luis and Ana Maria Salcedo; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mildred Layne Roberson, 88, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010 at her residence.

She was a member of the Daisy Church of God and the Naomi Ladies Bible Class.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Roberson.

Survivors include her sons, Donald (Patsy) Roberson, Everest Roberson, Leroy (Irene) Roberson, Randall (Kathy) Roberson; daughter, Janice Perky; brother, Marshal Layne; along with 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today, May 23, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Sam Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Russell Schaeffer

Russell H. Schaeffer, 84 of Ooltewah, died on Friday, May 21, 2010.

He was the son of the late Thomas L. and Elizabeth Hill Schaeffer.

Russell was a Seventh-day Adventist teacher for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member and deacon at Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church and former president of the 55 Plus Club.

Russell was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved music.

Russell was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Schaeffer.

Survivors include his wife of 181/2 years, Patricia Maize Schaeffer; sons, Richard Schaeffer, Roy (Cheryl) Schaeffer, Gerald Maize and Lonnie Maize; daughter, Pamela Harris; six grandchildren, Jillian Schaeffer, Brett Schaeffer, Jesse Maize, Malissa Harris, Jeb Maize and MacKenzie Maize; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, with Dr. George Akers and Pastor Dwight Herod officiating.

Interment will follow in Collegedale Cemetery.

Earl Stanley Walker, 59, of Ooltewah, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 20, 2010, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Myra Jean Weddle, 100, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 19, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Weddle Sr.; and son, Harry L. Weddle Jr.

She was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and enjoyed sports throughout her life.

She is survived by her grandsons, Harry L. Weddle III, of Nashville, and Christopher A. Weddle, of Chattanooga; great-grandsons, Joshua Andrew Weddle and Spencer Davis Weddle; and former daughter-in-law, Juanita Weddle Mezo.

A graveside service was held on Friday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Edward Brown

OAK RIDGE -- Edward Lee Brown, 47, formerly of Pikeville, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2010, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.

Edward, Eddie, or "Rooster" as he was known to some, had been undergoing treatments for the last three years at the Fresenins Medical Care Oak Ridge Dialysis Clinic. He had just recently been invited to Washington, D.C., back in March of this year to represent kidney transplant patients. He was also named a patient advocate and ambassador for Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi with the National Kidney Foundation.

He was musically talented as well. Edward loved to compose gospel songs and to play the keyboard. He was a member and played the keyboard at the Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Edward was born July 30, 1962, in Pikeville, to Clara and the late Alton Brown.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Franklin Brock; and his sister, Betty Brock.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Clara Brown; sisters, Marsha (Ali) Clark, of Oak Ridge, and Dorothy (J.C.) Nix; brothers, Lonnie (Norma) Brock and James Brock, all three of Pikeville; his life partner of 17 years, Douglas LaChasse, Oak Ridge; and a host of nieces and nephews; special aunts, Pauline Hood and Elizabeth Wood.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. CDT today May 23, 2010, in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home with the Rev. Beulah Stoudmire and Elder Irene McCowan.

Burial will be in the Hensen Cemetery.

CLEVELAND -- Wanda Kay Lawson, 70, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, in a Chattanooga hospital.

She worked as an administrative assistant at Merchants Bank, Bender Realty and owned and operated WK's Laundry and Wanda's Fashions.

She enjoyed cooking and flowers and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of Westwood Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Crutchfield Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Eugene Lawson Sr., of Cleveland; mother, Ruby Logan, of Chattanooga; children, Harold Eugene Lawson Jr. and wife, Carolina, of Boston, Mass., and Debbie Patten and husband, Lou, of Cleveland; grandchildren, Nathalie Ghrist, of Cleveland and Jordan Lawson and Justin Lawson, of Boston; brother, Raymond Crutchfield Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Lakeview, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. today, May 23, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Cleveland with the Rev. Jim Gibson, the Rev. Jim Caywood and the Rev. Tom Moncrief officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Joyce Evans Sunday School Class members and the Beecher Hunter Sunday School Class members.

FORT OGLETHORPE -- Kathy Benita Curl Funderburk, 54, left her earthly residence on Friday, May 21, 2010, to take up residence in Beulah Land.

She had lived in the North Georgia area for most of her life and was a member of South Rossville Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Funderburk; parents, DeLacy and Barbara Curl, all of Rossville; son and daughter-in-law, Ronny and Melissa Funderburk, of Rossville; daughter, Kristy Davis, of East Ridge; brother and sister-in-law, DeLacy and Teresa Curl II; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sherri and Lewis Barbee, of Rossville, and DeLisa and Ronnie Dickerson, of Chickamauga, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Cody, Kaly, Mark, Kourtney, Lexy, Emma and Ethan; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Daniels officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Leonard Jones

RINGGOLD -- Leonard Nunnally Jones, 80, passed away Friday May 21, 2010.

A resident of the Ringgold area for the past 26 years, he was a former employee of Roper Corp., where he worked for over 40 years; a veteran of the U.S. Army; and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ringgold, where he was an member of the Pioneer Sunday School Class and a volunteer at Christ Chapel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Gerald and Lillie Mae Bell Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Sanders Jones, of Ringgold; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Jones, of Pasadena, Calif., and Brian Jones, of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Kerry Bunn officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home on Monday.

LaFAYETTE -- Ruth Anderson Turner Wallace, 89, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at a local nursing home.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area she was a long time member of the LaFayette Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Dewell "C.D." Turner, second husband, Paul Wallace; parents, Walter and Mary Spears Anderson; two sisters and eight brothers.

She is survived by her son, Hershel (Karen) Turner, of Panama City, Fla.; daughter, Judy (Bob) Ferrell, of Resaca, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Tammy (David) Daugherty, Teresa (Steve) Adkins, James Turner, Sabrina Ferrell, Natalie Hunt, Chuck, George, Tom and Linda Smith; 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Eddie Boggess officiating.

Interment will follow at LaFayette City Cemetery.

SNYDER, Okla. -- Russell S. Adams, 88, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010.

He was born May 13, 1921, in Crab Orchard, Tenn., and raised in the Crossville, Tenn., area. Mr. Adams was to become a veteran of WWII, serving in the ETO. After the war he married his wife of more than 50 years, Florrine Almond, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Dixie Marie Thurman; and two sons, Thomas (Ruth) Adams, John Daniel (Renee) Adams; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elise Hamilton

PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Elise Hamilton, 46, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Anniston, Ala., she was a resident of Palm Beach for over 30 years and a member of Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea. Elise graduated from the Altamonte School; Mountain Brook High School, Birmingham, Ala., class of 1981; and Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David F.S. Johnson, from Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank T. Hamilton, of Anniston, Ala.

Elise is survived by her mother, Anita Hamilton (Sam) Michaels, of Palm Beach; father, William B. (Anne) Hamilton, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a brother, Frank Hamilton and his children, Evans and Kate, all of West Palm Beach; a stepbrother, Dr. Andrew (Becky) Michaels of Portland, Ore.; and a stepsister, Melissa Michaels of Boulder, Colo. Additional survivors include her aunt, Mrs. DeWitt Shy, of Memphis; an uncle, Tom A. Hamilton (Scotty), of Sarasota, Fla.; and five cousins, Sellers Shy (Stephanie) of Memphis, Genevieve Chapman (Clarence), of Oxford, Miss., Charles A. Hamilton (Wini), of Seattle, Wash., Richard Hamilton, of Sarasota, Fla., and Elisabeth H. (Tom) Meyer, Sarasota.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, Palm Beach, Fla., with the Rev. Cecily J. Titcomb, B.S., officiating.
