Susan Attlee

E. Susan Attlee, 80, of East Ridge, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2010.

Mrs. Attlee was born in Chattanooga, and raised by her parents, Earl and Mildred Smith. She was a retired school teacher from Manasquan Elementary in New Jersey and volunteered for Meals on Wheels in Bellmar, N.J., where she served as the director for 18 years.

Surviving are her sons, Victor and Earle Attlee and three grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, Belmar, NJ (Interfaith Neighbors, 810 Fourth Avenue, Asbury, NJ. 00012).

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the funeral home.

Imogene Boston

Dorothy Imogene Wright Boston, of Sale Creek, passed away of natural causes, on Monday, May 24, 2010.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1931 in Soddy, Tenn., to the late Len Parker and Mamie Redden. She was a former member of Daisy Church of God and a current member of Sale Creek Church of God.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda Faye Wright; her first husband, Dexter "Mitch" Wright; sisters, Glenna Schlicher, Robbie Dean Wells, Carolyn Sue Ricketts; brothers, James "Buddy" Parker and Lawrence Parker.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Leroy Boston; children, Walter Eugene (Mitzi) Wright, of Hixson, Dolores Wright (Jerry) Beavers, of Soddy-Daisy, Kenneth Edward (Charlotte) Wright, of Sale Creek; grandchildren, Chris (Melissa) and Adam Beavers, of Soddy-Daisy, Derek Wright, of Pensacola, Fla., Kelli Wright (Denny) Beason, of Soddy-Daisy, Scarlet (Brandon) Elliott, of East Ridge, Courtney "CJ" (Eddie) Rigney, of Alabama, Joshua and Ian Wright, of Hixson; great-grandchildren, Sky and Cody Beason , Mollie Beavers and Diva Rigney; stepchildren, Teresa (Gary) Cooper, of Soddy-Daisy, Kenneth Boston Jr., of Carrolton, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Sale Creek Church of God with Bishop Kenneth Bolton officiating.

Burial will follow at Welsh-Rogers Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Parker Carroll

Parker Lynn Carroll, 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 23, 2010.

Parker, a devoted husband, father and friend, is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edna Louise; two children, daughter, Patricia Lynn Nail and her husband, Bill Nail, and son, Parker Craig Carroll; two grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth Aulbert and husband, Jon Aulbert, Wesley Parker Nail and wife, Angela Nail; and three great-grandchildren, Emma Kaitlyn Nail, Madeline Elizabeth Aulbert and Jamie Lynn Aulbert.

Parker's working career included employment with the Army Depot in Memphis and the U.S. Geological Survey. After thirty plus years working for federal services, Parker retired from the Johnson Space Center of Houston, Texas in 1978. He and his wife moved to Chattanooga in 1979 where he practiced law for many years until he retired from total employment.

Parker was a Deacon of First Baptist Church, Golden Gateway, of Chattanooga and taught the Seeker Sunday School Class there. He was a member of the Retired Federal Employees Association.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the North Chapel.

Services for Mr. Carroll will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the North Chapel.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Houston, Texas.

Milton L. Clowers, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, May 20, 2010, in Atlanta, at his residence.

He was a member of Howard High class of 1968.

Paul Thomas "Tom" Collins, 63, of East Ridge, gave up his battle with cancer and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Brother Steven Kellogg, Brother Bill Gardner and Brother John Carroll officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon to 3 p.m. and after 5 p.m. today and prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alma Ford

Alma "Kitty" Ford, 83, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 21, 2010, from a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today, May 25, in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bragg officiating.

Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Leona Forsythe

Leona Nadine Forsythe, 78 of Chattanooga, departed this life Monday, May 24, 2010.

Nadine was a member of Lookout Valley Church of the Nazarene for 45 years, and was born in Chattanooga to the late Raymond Floyd and Lois Velma Eller, and was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Forsythe Sr.; brother, Edward Eller; daughter, Sandra Lee Forsythe; and son-in-law, Edward Cunningham.

Survivors include her children, Sylvia Cunningham, of Chattanooga, Chuck and Melanie Forsythe, of Wildwood, Ga.; grandchildren, Booney, David and Tracie, Christina and Bill, Andy, Aaron, Naomi; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Eric, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in the chapel with Pastor Joshua Fite officiating.

Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, West.

Family will receive friends after 4 p.m. today, and prior to the service Wednesday.

Jack Henley

Jack Olen Henley, 89, of East Brainerd, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. Jack retired from DuPont after 38 years of service and was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Myrtle Alice Henley; brothers, Clarence Henley, Carl Henley and Frank Henley; sisters, Reba Clemmons and Nina Jennings.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Rubye Tate Henley; sons, Jack (Denise) Henley and Mark (Lisa) Henley; grandchildren, Jason Henley, Drew (Diane) Henley, Allison Henley, Jackson Henley and Rachel Henley; great-granddaughter, Anna Henley; sister, Cody Clinton; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Chaplain Patrick Brownell officiating.

Tom Mann

Thomas Gordon Mann, 68, of Harrison, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Mann.

Tom retired from BASF after 30 years of service and was currently co -owner of Eastern Rivers Inc., in Chattanooga.

He attended Bayside Baptist Church and was an avid golfer, who enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Mann, of Harrison; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Collier, of Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons, Thomas (Colleen) Mann, Greg Mann, both of Chattanooga; step son, Ronnie (Jenny) Dunn; step daughter, Jill (Greg) Baughn, both of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Drew Collier, Trey Dunn, Macy Collier, Cooper Baughn, Carter Baughn, Abigail Mann, Evalynn Mann; mother, Eva Boyd Mann, of East Ridge; two sisters, Wanda Langston, Memphis, Nancy Emerling, of Chattanooga; two brothers, Mickey (Toni) Mann, of Signal Mountain, Herb (Nancy) Mann, of Jasper, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today in the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Stitts officiating.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Robert Mason Sr.

Robert E. "Bob" Mason Sr., 82, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, May 24, 2010.

Mr. Mason was born in Chattanooga, where he had lived most of his life. He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, was on the property and grounds committee and a member of the J. Fred Johnson Sunday School Class. He graduated from Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tenn., and was retired from Cummins-Onan after 45 years as a salesman. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Mason was a lifetime member and Past Commandant of the Marine Corps League and a life member of the Marine Corps Second Division. He was also a life member and Past Commander of the Disabled American Veteran Chapter 6, member of American Legion Post 95 in East Ridge, and served as past Commander of the Chattanooga Boating Club. Mr. Mason was a retired Captain of Flotilla 06-07 of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and served as Assistant Chief of the Auxiliary Police for more than five years.

Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Thelma Harvin Mason.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret McGill Mason; son, Robert E. Mason Jr.; grandchildren, Tiffany N. Mason, of Broadman, Ohio, and Salina and Todd Mason, of Arlington, Texas.

Cecil Parrott Jr.

Cecil S. Parrott Jr. died peacefully Sunday, May 23, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Whitfield County, Ga., he had lived in Chattanooga most of his life and was a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Opal. He was the beloved father of Bethela Pritchard, Nanalane Frey and Cecil S. Parrott III; grandfather to Strat Parrott, Landyn Frey, Logan Frey and Maclane Pritchard.

William T. Paulson, 87, of Signal Mountain, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010.

He was formerly of Big Pine Key, Fla. Bill's memory will best be honored by simple daily acts of kindness by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean.

Cleo Hamill Poe, 79, of Chattanooga, died Sunday, May 23, 2010.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was predeceased by her parents, Ephraim and Rosa Hill Hamill.

She is survived by her husband, Luther E. Poe; son, Michael E. Poe, Chattanooga; daughter, Teresa Poe Eldridge, Rising Fawn, Ga.; sister, Nellie Burns; two brothers, James Hamill and E.J. Hamill and several nieces and nephews.

Durward Price

Durward E. "Ed" Price, 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010, at a local healthcare facility.

He was born in 1925 in Guy, Ark. He came to know his Savior at the age of 82. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service, serving in France during WWII and in the Korean Conflict in which he was highly decorated, and he was retired from TVA after many years of service. He loved fishing, hunting, bowling and shooting pool. He was a avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Amalee Price; parents, Carlton Edgar and Gena Clarice Price; sisters, Sally Sarrett, Auda Bledsoe, Elva Shultz.

He is survived by his sons, Douglas Price, Michael Price, Larry McBryar, Lester Noble; daughters, Jackie Lou Self, Cheryal Myers; brother, Billy Joe Price; sisters, Wanda O'Kelley, Verla Young; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be 5 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel of Williamson & Sons Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

James Ryon

James Dewey Ryon, 77, of Hixson, died Sunday, April 25, 2010.

Dewey was born in Leavenworth, Kan., on Feb. 21, 1933 to Lorene Bradshaw and Harley Ryon. He was a long-time resident of White Mountain Lake, Ariz., before moving to Tennessee. He served in the United States Marine Corp and retired as a ceramic tile setter after 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.

Survivors include his devoted wife Mae, six children, five stepchildren and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dewey loved to fish. He was always ready with a joke and was quite the prankster. He was a generous and kind man who never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and his loyal dog Sophie.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 29, at 1 p.m. at the family home in Hixson. Friends and family are welcome.

Russell H. Schaeffer, 84, of Ooltewah, died on Friday, May 21, 2010.

Charles T. Squires Sr., 65, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2010.

He was born May 23, 1944 in Tallahassee, Fla. He was a son of the late John W. Squires and Elizabeth Ann Mahery. Charles grew up and attended high school in Jackson, Miss.

Mr. Squires is survived by his children, Elizabeth Livingston (Tim), of Lexington, S.C., Anne Hartley (Chuck) of West Columbia and Charles T. Squires Jr. (Wennie), of Augusta, Ga.; brother, John W. Squires Jr. (Sue), of Shreveport, La.; sister, Ann Scott (Dan), of Nashville; brother, Jimmy Squires (Vicki), of Dallas, Texas; sister, Kathy Huff (Fred), of Jackson, Miss.; and four grandchildren.

Barbara Ann Streun, 78, lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010.

She was a member of Brooks United Methodist Church for over 40 years.

Roosevelt Terry

Roosevelt M. Terry, 49, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2010.

He was born in Detroit, Mich. to Roosevelt Sr. and Mary Terry. Roosevelt was a graduate of Kirkman Technical High School Class of 1980. He was employed by Bright School for over 10 years and YMCA for 15 years. Roosevelt Terry was an Associate Minister at Thankful Baptist Church as well as singing in the Men's Choir in his early years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Terry Sr. and Mary Terry.

Roosevelt is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Janice D. Terry; child, Tamecia D. Jackson; grandchildren, LaDarius, Taya, Adrian; sisters, Rosemarie Gordon, Detroit, Mich.; Gwendolyn Terry, Chattanooga; brother, Ernest Terry, Detroit; nieces, Leslie, Gordon, Detroit; Nicole Terry, Chattanooga; nephew, Demetrius Terry; special aunts, Mozell Thaxton and Jeraldine Sims; a host of innumerable relatives; very special friends, Arthur and Nancy Maddox.

Rickey Everett

GRAYSVILLE - Rickey Everett, 60, died unexpectedly at his home late Sunday evening, May 23, 2010.

Rickey was born in Graysville on Oct. 3, 1949 the son of the late "JP" and Bertha McCuistan Everett.

Rickey was a lifelong resident of Graysville. He served his country with the USMC, serving two tours in Viet Nam receiving the Purple Heart. For many years he was employed in commercial construction.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Henderson Everett, of Graysville; his son, Jason Everett, of Graysville; two daughters, Heidi Everett, of Graysville and Melissa "Pug" Everett, of Evensville; his brother, Danny Everett; his sister, Darlene Worley, of Dayton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services for Rickey will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Sister Opal Scott officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in the Everett Family Cemetery in Graysville.

Anthoy Gipson Sr.

SEWANEE - Anthony Wayne Gipson Sr., 61, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010, at his residence.

He was born in Sewanee to the late Erskin Berry Gipson and Hattie Marie Gudger Gipson. He was a 1968 graduate of Franklin County High School and a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of a pioneer family of Franklin County and the great-great-grandson of Allen Gipson and Colonel John R. Gudger.

Survivors include a daughter, Jayme Marie Gipson Condra and husband, Charles Condra of Monteagle; sons, Jason Ray Gipson and wife, Cristy Sisk Gipson and Anthony Wayne Gipson Jr., of Cowan; brothers, Berry Eugene Gipson of Decherd, James E. Gipson and Richard D. Gipson, of Sewanee; grandchildren, River, Tara and Kayman Condra, of Monteagle, Lily and Carly Gipson, of Cowan; companion and friend, Tina Stephens, of Sewanee.

MURFREESBORO - Miya Olivia Chatman, 2 years old, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Miya attended Family Worship Center and will be missed by all.

Miya was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Flossie Chatman, Emory Maccuallie.

Martha Gifford

ROSSVILLE - Martha Ray Gifford, 75, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 23, 2010 after a courageous 17-year fight with breast cancer.

Her positive attitude was an inspiration to everyone around her. She died at home holding hands with her children and her husband by her side.

Mrs. Gifford retired from Cloud Springs Elementary School in 2000 following 21 years of service and thoroughly enjoyed the monthly meetings of the Retired Ladies Luncheon Group. She was very close to her neighbors, most of whom have lived in the neighborhood for 45 years and whose generous support warmed her heart during her last days. She was a member of Zion Church of God.

Survivors include her husband, Gary "Jack" Gifford, with whom she just celebrated a spectacular 50th wedding anniversary; daughter, Melanie Gifford McCoskey; son, Gary Gifford; granddaughter, Allie McCoskey; sister, Bobbie (Ned) Morris, Memphis; niece, Jeanette Hundley, also of Memphis. Her beloved companion, Sunshine, will miss her afternoon nap buddy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Harold Reed officiating.

She was born July 11, 1929, to Ben C. and Mae Quinn Akers in Apison, Tenn., and had been a resident of Avon Park since 1997, coming from Chattanooga. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Avon Park. The beloved wife of Gordon C. Armstrong for 57 years, she was the loving mother of five children.

She is survived by her husband, Gordon; daughter, Melinda Armstrong, Avon Park; son-in-law, Don McManus, Sebring; brothers, C.L. Akers, Ringgold, Ga., and Bill Stafford, Ooltewah; sister, Helen Hill, Ooltewah and two grandsons, Cole and Cale Franklin.

She was preceded in death by sons, Anthony L. Armstrong and Timothy L. Armstrong; and daughters, Johnnie C. McManus and Sarah M. Armstrong.
