Catoosa sheriff's son arrested

The son of Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers was arrested Sunday in Chattanooga on several charges, including commission of acts of terrorism, in connection with a false call made to Chattanooga police.

Jeremy Summers, 28, also was charged with filing a false police report, abuse of the 911 system and public intoxication, said police spokeswoman Rebecca Royval.

"He called 911 and said that there was an active shooter and that shots had been fired and people were down," Royval said. "And apparently when they asked what his name was ... he said, 'They're coming after me. I've got to go.'"

The call was made about 7 p.m. from a pay phone outside Buehler's Market at 429 Market St., Royval said. The terrorism charge stems from the caller saying there was an active shooter, she said.

"When they put that out over the radio, everybody goes in," Royval said.

Chattanooga police, fire, and emergency services responded, she said.

Royval said Summers admitted to police that he had made the call.

Voice and e-mail messages to Phil Summers were not returned late Sunday.

A bond had not been set for Jeremy Summers as of 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Jeremy Summers had two drunken-driving offenses in 2004, one of which came after an automobile accident. He also was charged that year with theft of property, second-degree criminal damage to property and an open container violation.

Evidence in an alleged third drunken-driving incident from February 2005 was dismissed by Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Rebecca Stern.

"The seizing officer did not have reason to suspect the defendant of criminal activity," Stern said in the 2006 evidence ruling.

Chattanooga teen reported missing

Police and family members are looking for a 13-year-old Chattanooga girl who has been missing since Saturday.

Police spokeswoman Rebecca Royval Royval said in a news release that Marianna McCauley was last seen at her home on Ely Road on Saturday afternoon.

She was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt and a black and gray sweater.

Marianna is 5 feet, 2 inches tall, 135 pounds, with gray eyes, long brown hair and braces on her teeth. The family and investigators have contacted all known friends, and no one has seen or spoken with the missing child.

Anyone who knows where Marianna McCauley is is asked to call the Chattanooga Police Department immediately at 698-2525.

Shooting victim may be charged

A man who was shot Sunday at the Kanku's Express on Dodds Avenue may face charges, Chattanooga police said.

Darrell Holiday, 28, was shot in the left arm during a confrontation shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the convenience store at 2115 Dodds Ave., Police spokeswoman Rebecca Royval said. He was taken to Parkridge Medical Center in a private car.

When police interviewed him, Holliday was uncooperative and stated that he wasn't sure how the shooting occurred or who the suspect was, Royval said.

But surveillance video shows Holiday approaching someone from behind, then moments later, being shot. The video shows Holiday clearly looking at the suspect then walking into the store, where he asks the clerk to call 911.

Royval said Holiday's injuries are not considered life-threatening, although the bullet penetrated his chest cavity.

She said he gave inconsistent and false statements to investigators and may face charges of filing a false police report.
