McWherter makes concession speech

Democrat Mike McWherter has conceded the Tennessee governor's election to Republican Bill Haslam.

In a statement issued moments ago, McWherter said:

"I would like to congratulate Bill Haslam for his hard fought victory. We might not agree on every issue, but I feel confident that we share the same desire to create a better Tennessee for all of our citizens. I would urge Bill Haslam to take a common sense approach to governing, making sure Tennessee’s hard working families are at the forefront of every decision. If he will take this approach, which were indeed the approaches of my father and Governor Bredesen, I believe our state will be better for it."
