Motorcycle ride today for Marine

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Organizers expect cool but pleasant weather today for a Chatsworth to Dalton, Ga., motorcycle ride and community get-together to benefit Marine Corps Sgt. Joey Jones, who lost his legs in August in a bomb explosion in Afghanistan.

The 80-mile, police-escorted ride will start Saturday at 11 a.m. from American Legion Post 167 in Chatsworth and end at American Legion Post 112 in Dalton.

The event is sponsored by the American Legion in Gordon, Murray and Whitfield counties and supported by others including American Legion Riders Post 167, the Georgia State Patrol, Boy Scout Troup 172 and the Ladies Auxiliary Post 112.

Ride registration starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Chatsworth American Legion Post at 401 N. Fifth Ave. The entry fee of $10 per bike for the two-hour ride includes a meal. The Georgia State Patrol will escort riders beginning at 11 a.m. through Murray County to Calhoun American Legion Post 47 at 401 West Line St. for a short break. Riders then will proceed to Dalton American Legion Post 112 at 1118 N. Glenwood Ave.

For those who do not ride but wish to attend, the Dalton American Legion post will open to the public at 11 a.m. Meal tickets are $5, and donations are accepted.

All proceeds go to Jones.
