When the weather grows cold, it's a great time to go to the movies.

Several of the movies set to open this holiday season are garnering Oscar buzz. But for those who just want a break, there's something for you, too.

"Tangled" (now showing)

Princess Rapunzel lets down her hair, and her guard, when she becomes smitten with a passing bandit and leaves her tower for the first time in search of her lost love. Also in 3D. Voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi. Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard.

"Burlesque" (Now showing)

It's a story of a small-town girl who heads to Los Angeles with dreams of stardom and finds her spotlight in a burlesque club run by a former dancer. Whether this film turns out to be your mother's "Showgirls" remains to be seen. With Cher, Christina Aguilera, Stanley Tucci and Alan Cumming. Directed by Steve Antin.

"Faster" (now showing)

This action thriller centers on an ex-con seeking to avenge the murder of his brother. In this story of the hunter as the hunted, he is also being pursued by two men: a veteran cop and a loose-cannon hit man. With Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton and Maggie Grace. Directed by George Tillman Jr.

"Love and Other Drugs" (now showing)

All wild-child, Maggie, and pharmaceuticals salesman, Jamie, want from each other is sex -- until love gets in the way. Based on Jamie Reidy's memoir "Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman." With Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway. Directed by Edward Zwick.

"The Warrior's Way" (Dec. 3)

This fantasy action film is set in the American badlands. When a warrior is forced to hide out in a small town, he encounters local characters, including the town drunk and a circus knife thrower. With Kate Bosworth, Jang Dong-gun and Geoffrey Rush. Directed by Sgnmoo Lee.

"127 Hours" (Dec. 3)

It's based on the true story of Aron Ralston, who was trapped in a canyon in Utah when a boulder fell on his arm, rendering him immobile. After five days, determined to survive by any means necessary, Ralston cut off his own arm. Several test audience members have allegedly fainted at the amputation scene. With James Franco, Kate Mara and Amber Tamblyn. Directed by Danny Boyle.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Dawn Treader" (Dec. 10)

Joined by their cousin, Eustace, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie reunite with Prince Caspian in Narnia. There, they travel the sea on the Dawn Treader, encountering dragons and other mystical creatures along the way. Also in 3-D. Voiced by Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes, Georgie Henley and Liam Neeson. Directed by Michael Apted.

"The Fighter" (Dec. 10)

Mark Wahlberg teams up with director David O. Russell for the third time to play "Irish" Micky Ward in this sports biopic about a professional boxer from Lowell, Mass. Christian Bale co-stars as Dickie Edlund, Ward's troubled half-brother, who is a fighter himself. Also with Amy Adams and Melissa Leo.

"The Tourist" (Dec. 10)

A con-woman's plans go awry when she falls for her mark, an American tourist visiting Italy. But she might be someone else's mark. A remake of the French film "Anthony Zimmer." With Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Paul Bettany. Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmack.

"Yogi Bear" (Dec. 17)

A documentarian travels to Jellystone National Park and encounters the "smarter-than-your-average-bear" Yogi and his friends, including Boo-Boo Bear and Ranger Smith. Also in 3-D. Voiced by Dan Aykroyd, Christine Taylor and Justin Timberlake. Directed by Eric Brevig.

"Tron: Legacy" (Dec. 17)

In this sequel to 1982's "Tron," a young man haunted by his father's mysterious disappearance finds himself pulled into the same cyberworld his father has been trapped in for two decades. Also in 3-D. With Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. Directed by Joseph Kosinski.

"How Do You Know" (Dec. 17)

This story of a love triangle that forms among a former athlete searching for herself, a corporate executive searching for a solution and a baseball player searching for just the right words to say. With Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and Jack Nicholson. Directed by James L. Brooks.

"True Grit" (Dec. 22)

The latest from the Coen Brothers is a Western adapted from the 1968 novel by Charles Portis. A teenage girl looking to avenge the murder of her father seeks the help of U.S. Marshal Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. John Wayne won an Oscar for portraying Cogburn in a 1969 adaptation. With Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin. Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.

"Little Fockers' (Dec. 22)

Now married 10 years and with an adorable pair of children, Greg Focker thinks he's finally in his father-in-law's circle of trust. But the always skeptical Jack Byrne is watching Greg. With Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro, Teri Polo, Owen Wilson, Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand. Directed by Paul Weitz.

"Gulliver's Travels" (Dec. 22)

In this modern retelling of Jonathan Swift's tale, a travel writer takes on an assignment in Bermuda but finds himself shipwrecked on the island of Lilliput, where all the citizens are tiny. Also in 3-D. With Jack Black, Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. Directed by Rob Letterman.

"Black Swan" (Dec. 22)

A psychological thriller about a career-obsessed ballerina who enters in a twisted rivalry with a new dancer and begins exploring her dark side. With Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder and Barbara Hershey. Directed by Darren Aronofksy.
