Gospel sing tonight for wounded Marine

Tonight a Dalton, Ga. church will host gospel singers to benefit a local wounded Marine.

U.S. Marine Sgt. Joey Jones lost his legs on Aug. 6 while serving as an explosives ordnance technician in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan.

IF YOU GO* What: Benefit for wounded Marine Sgt. Joey Jones* When: Today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.* Where: Macedonia Baptist Church, 1355 Dawnville Road NE, Dalton, Ga.* Cost: Donations welcome

The 24-year-old is recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Family friends Treasa West and Ginger Souther helped arrange the event and a previous benefit to raise money for a handicap-accessible home addition for the Dawnville, Ga.-man.

Childhood friend Drew Callaway organized a benefit concert at the Dalton Depot in September and another friend, Charles Heard, collected donations at the Dalton VFW Sept. 26, the same day West and Souther hosted "Joey Day" in Dawnville.

Souther said all money from each of the events and any future events goes to the family for work on the home or travel to and from Washington to visit Jones during his recovery there, which could take more than a year.

The Covenants, the Hicks Family, Tori Martin, Philip Hare and Jeanette Rogers are scheduled to perform at Macedonia tonight.
