State GOP outspends Dems by almost 3-1 in October

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Democratic Party was outspent by Republicans by nearly 3-to-1 in the days leading up to Tuesday's election, the party's pre-general election disclosure shows.

Democrats' disclosure also show that, with just $80,598 in cash on hand, the party was scraping the bottom of the financial barrel at the end of the 23-day reporting period that ended Oct. 23.

The Democratic Party's disclosure show it raised $533,200 and spent $548,911 from Oct. 1-Oct. 23.

In contrast, the state GOP's Tennessee Legislative Campaign Committee reported raising $1.39 million and spending $1.65 million during the same period. Republicans reported a cash balance of $448,273 as of Oct. 23, nearly five times as much as Democrats.

Democrats' major contributors included the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a national group that gave $150,000, as well as $154,700 from the Senate Democratic Caucus.
