Two car shows will entertain auto enthusiasts over the holiday weekend. One at the Tennessee Riverpark includes a barbecue dinner. Another at the Walker County Civic Center will be preceded by a sock hop and poker run.

* Tennessee Riverpark: East Hamilton County Ruritan Club will hold its open car, truck and motorcycle show Saturday at the riverpark, 4301 Amnicola Highway. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with a $25 fee for participants. Spectators get in free. Judging of the 20 classes of vehicles will begin at noon, and trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.

Those only interested in eating, can call ahead for to-go orders on barbecue and hamburgers. The number is 883-3636. All proceeds from the day benefit the club's community projects.

* Walker County Civic Center: The Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love of Walker County campaign gets a boost from three events Sunday and Monday. Organizers describe the trio of fundraisers as a chance to "play Santa in the summertime."

Leading off is the Rev. Booger Memorial Poker Run, starting from the Civic Center, 10052 *. Highway 27, in Rock Spring. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., with the first bike out at 12:30 p.m., last bike out at 1:30 p.m. and the last bike in at 4 p.m.

Cost is $25 for the first poker hand, which includes T-shirt and a barbecue sandwich plate; $5 for each additional hand; $5 for each additional plate lunch; $10 for each additional T-shirt.

Trophies will be awarded for oldest rider, best club participation, best hand and a few surprise categories. Door prize and 50/50 drawings will take place at the end of the ride.

The dance follows at 7 p.m. Sunday. Performing will be Brent Hubbard & Damaged Goods Band, Vicki Roberts and Paul Smith & The Bourbon Street Band. Local radio personality Tommy Jett will be in attendance. Randy Black will emcee the show, and Walt Marler will provide the sound.

Awards will be presented in '50s dance and '50s dress contests, as well as to the best on the Hula Hoop.

Cost is $3 per person, $5 per couple, free for children 6 and younger.

The annual Labor Day Car & Motorcycle Show will be Monday. Registration goes from 8 to 11:30 a.m. with a $20 entry fee. Awards for 13 classes of cars and trucks as well 10 best-of trophies will be presented. Motorcycles entries will compete for Top 5 spots, as well as special awards for Best of Show, Best Paint and Best Custom.

The day includes barbecue and other concessions, vendors, door prizes and Elliott Sadler and Bill Elliott race cars.
