Spalding’s new book looks at the homeless

Local author Robert Spalding, DPM will sign copies of his new book “How To Live Homeless in Style: 50 Ways To Survive on Plastic Bottles in These Economic Times” from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Wild Hare Books, 1219 Taft Highway on Signal Mountain.

The 400-page book includes more than 175 photographs. The book is based on interviews with homeless people, visits to homeless centers and “through learning to dumpster dive for plastic bottles to create the ECO Shelter, furniture, a boat and other survival items,” according to a news release.

The book tells more than 50 ways to survive on plastic bottles, how others live and ride on locomotives, famous songs of the homeless and historical recipes made by homeless people, among other bits of fact and trivia.

For each book sold online at www.cokefloat.com or from Dr. Spalding’s office at 1225 Taft Highway, Signal Mountain, $1 will be split between the Chattanooga Community Kitchen and House of All Souls.

The book also can be purchased at The New Homeless Art Gallery, 110 E. Main St.

Dr. Spalding will sign books Sept. 25 at Coolidge Park at the Parents Fair.
