RINGGOLD, Ga. — Catoosa County commissioners this morning approved $544,000 in site work, paving the way for a massive shopping center that will include a Kroger grocery store.
The development will be located at the corner of Pine Grove Road and Battlefield Parkway in Ringgold.
In addition to the 90,000-square-foot anchor grocery store, the shopping center will include 12,000 square feet of retail space and property that could accommodate a bank and restaurants.
Roughly 170 people will work at the grocery store alone, said county attorney Chad Young. Part-time employees will account for 112 of those jobs.
The shopping center developers asked for about $904,000 in sewer and water and stormwater upgrades.
County commissioners voted unanimously to approve the incentives this morning on the condition that Ringgold take on about 10 percent of the costs and Fort Oglethorpe assume 20 percent, Young said. In all, the county will pay $544,000 toward the project.
County leaders estimate the store will generate about $222,000 in tax dollars annually, so subtracting that revenue, county officials said upgrades will cost about $777,000, which they will pay for over a 5-year period.
