RINGGOLD: Celtic Festival/Highland Games today

The Appalachian Celtic Festival and Highland Games are today, beginning at 9 a.m. at 288 Emberson Drive. Musical performances will conclude with a concert headlined by Highland Reign at the Ringgold Depot at 7:30 p.m.. Celtic athletic events and vendors are part of the event. Admission is $5 adults and $3 children age 6-12. Children under age 6 are free.

The Battle of Tunnel Hill 17th Annual Civil War Re-enactment will be held Sept. 11-12. Visit the website at www.TunnelHillHeritageCenter.com for more information.

R.L. Templeton, 78, has earned his fourth-degree masters black belt at Jessie Thornton's United Karate Studio in Ringgold. Templeton began training at age 65. Last week, he was surrounded by family and friends as he performed his own kata, broke boards and exhibited his self-defense skills before Thornton tied on his newest rank.
