Program offers plays, workshop

The Lee University Theatre Program will present two plays by a nationally touring puppet company on campus next week. In addition to the performances, Wood and Strings Theatre will offer a hands-on puppet-making workshop for families.

Presented Thursday will be “Out of the Mist ... a Dragon,” a dramatic and magical tale performed with classic puppet styles from around the world. The play features exacting reproductions of the Japanese Bunraku articulated figures and Indonesian shadow play illustrating tales and legends. The performance starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.

The family puppet-building workshop will take place at 5 p.m. Sept. 17. Tickets are $3.

Following at 7 p.m. is the play “Ananse! Early in the Day,” a musical tale inspired by spectacle, stories, sounds and sculpture of West African folklore. Tickets are $5.

All events are held in the auditorium of the Dixon Center. The box office will be open 3-6 p.m. daily starting Sunday and one hour before the shows.

For reservations, e-mail theatre@leeuniversity.edu or call the box office at 423-614-8343.
