about Clay Bennett...
The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

The solution is that all he has to do is turn one of the signs around.
But which one?
Tough choice.
The cartoon disappeared! Now there is no indication of prosperity existing.
This is very reminiscent of an old childhood joke...
How do you drive (a particular race, creed, political persuasion, or religious sect) crazy. Just take 'em into a round room and tell 'em to go stand in the corner...
You're right...not nearly as funny as it was when I was eight or nine. Then again, times do change things.
Except for hope and dreams. As long as a person has hope and a dream to cling to they will continue to strive forward under the worst of circumstances.
At least until some naysayer(s) takes their hope and dreams away. But even then, a little 'blind faith' can help.
Still believing, Woody
Good morning, Clay's commenters.
I have news. Clay won The Society of Professional Journalists' Green Eyeshade Award for editorial cartooning! Here's some information about the award: http://www.greeneyeshade.org/
Congratulations, Clay!
Political credibility is gone...neither party will tell us the hard truth for fear of losing the next election.
The cure for our economy is going to take a while,a long while, and there are no shortcuts. Maybe things have to be worse for a new leader to emerge and for the American people to be ready to accept the necessary repairs to the American system.
The current polarization will not allow either party to deal effectively with the nations problems.
Result: We all lose.
Congratulations Clay! You have earned my respect.
Awesome cartoon Clay! I really really love your work.
Which is why I created an account today so that I could recommend adding the comic itself to your rss feed. Currently just the title is showing. Having it in the feed would make viewing your comic a whole lot easier and convenient for those of us who love to view their news in an rss reader (check out google reader if you don't currently use one).
As a side note the image in the direct link to the story is pointing to http://media.timesfreepress.com/img/news/tease/2010/09/09/Turning_the_Corner_0912.jpg instead of http://media.timesfreepress.com/img/news/tease/2010/09/12/Turning_the_Corner_0912.jpg
Keep up the good work!
Warren
Let the "Party of No" take over again, there won't be any corners, just a constant 'round and 'round as we swirl down the drain.
It's hard to understand you're up to your neck in quicksand when all you can see around are green trees. This is the situation in Washington. Good salaries and health care with other benies flowing from lobbyists and back-home political cronies. Recession? Not hardly, as long as they keep convincing folks back home they are fighting for them. The toon is actually correct: prosperity is just around the corner if the building happens to be in DC.
Ok, I've come up with the solution. The man turns both signs around backwards and sits down at the corner with his hat out.
The real problem is the fellow believing any sign by either party.

I suppose you could turn the signs 1/4 down!
OOPS! I meant 1/4 up, 1/4 down.

Great news! Congratulations, Clay!
Congratulations on the Green Eyeshade Award, Clay!
Much deserved!
May I too be one to offer Clay my congratulations as well for a very much deserved award.
Congratulations Clay!
I think even those who disagree with your point of view would acknowledge that you have a particular talent for getting your point across with minimal exposition. (Unlike of some verbose posters here, myself included.)
You are a master of the visual metaphor.
Well deserved.
We can all go celebrate at that Tavern which promises "Free Beer Tomorrow".
Hooray for Clay! He's worth that and more.
Congratulations, Clay. I may not agree with you too often policitally, but that doesn't matter at all when discussing your talent as an artist. Well deserved, indeed.
*politically
Yay Clay!
Good cartoon Clay and it shows how both party's will lie to the American people when they are in office when it comes to the prosperity issue.
Harry here is a link you should check out as well to make your point better sir.
The real problem is the fellow believing any sign by either party.

Welcome WarrenP to the site and we all hope you enjoy it here sir.
911 was a shocker and most of the victims was wearing "Dockers" during the ordeal.
Here's why there's no "prosperity". The Left-Progs have done it again and again and again:
Timeline shows Bush, McCain warning Dems of financial and housing crisis; meltdown by ProudToBeCanadian
