DUNLAP: High School hosting several events

The first Sequatchie County High School football home game will be held on Sept. 17 and there will be several things taking place.

One will be the recognition of the first organized cheerleaders of the school from 60 years ago. There were six ladies chosen — Eleanor Bryant Kelley, Jobyna Smith Oakley, Betty Harmon Buechner, Janice Johnson Boynton, Beulah Narramore Layne and June Mosley Neergaard. Their class members will honor them at a meal earlier in the day.

Also, there were eight boys in the class that were members of the football team and seven are still living. They will also be recognized.

The 32nd Mountaineer Folk Festival at Fall Creek Falls State Park will be held today through Sunday. There will be music, food and more than 100 crafters demonstrating and selling their products.

Sequatchie County High School class of 1960 is in the planning process for its 40th reunion on Sept. 18. For more information, contact Anna Faye Heard at 949-2100 or Winston Pickett and 949-7608.

Sequatchie County Memorial Park continues to gather resources for the completion of the project’s first phase. A Poker Run motorcycle ride event is scheduled for Saturday to raise money for the park. The ride will begin from the Memorial Park headquarters on U.S. Highway 127 and will cover several area miles, finishing back at the headquarters with raffle, prizes and motorcycle accessories.
