2 shooting deaths reported in 2 days in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The body of a 32-year-old man was found early Saturday in the rear of an apartment complex, apparently the second homicide victim in Augusta in two days.

The Augusta Chronicle reported deputies found Edward Cousette dead at about 1:15 a.m. in the rear of Trinity Manor Apartments on Barton Chapel Road in Augusta. Residents reported hearing six gunshots.

John Harris said his 82-year-old mother took cover in her bedroom closet when she heard shots at the apartment complex near her house. Harris said the apartments should be better lit to deter drug dealers.

Cousette was not in the military but lived with his wife at Fort Gordon.

On Friday, 26-year-old Damion Collier was killed when shots were fired into a crowd on Second Avenue in Augusta.
