about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Clay, I have to admit..today's 'toon' makes a bit of a fashion statement. Not a good one, mind you, but a fashion statement, none-the-less.

I feel so good this morning, even the sight of all those dangling tea bags couldn't curddle my coffee. I hope everyone else has as great of a day as I have planned.

There is one I have never heard them utter. "...we are all children of God...."

To put this post in perspective there are really four parties operating during these polictical times; 1. Liberal/Socialist/Progressive (Clay's the only one in these posts that admits he is a "Social Democrat") 2. Democratic (Moderates) 3. Republican (Moderates/Rinos) 4. Conservative/Libertarians (There are numerous people in these posts who not only admit to being Conservatives/Libertarians but are very proud that they are) Whether you want to admit this or not but both of today's Democratic and Republican Parties are BOTH moving to the right and leaving behind the far left wings of BOTH parties. They are being left (pun)in the dust. The majority of the voters voting in the future will now embrace the Moderate Democrats and the Conservative Republicans. Left out will be the Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Rangle, Boxer, Waters, Dodd, Frank, The Clintons, McCain, BushII, Etc, types. The voters who support these types will also be left in the dust. Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, what to do.

Sorry but an assault rifle is clearly defined. It has one feature, and only one, that makes it an assault rifle - the select fire capability. Select fire means fully automatic fire is available. Just because a rifle is black and scary looking, or looks like an AK47, it is not necessarily an "assault rifle".

The confusion comes from the media using sensationalist rhetoric and politicians meddling with feel good rules. It's astounding that otherwise intelligent people fall for this tripe.

If you want a good example of the foolishness fostered by politicians, I invite you to google "ak47 922r".

Define "assault weapon" in the CIVILIAN/COMMERCIAL world? Piece of cake, really.

It is anything any Lib-Prog says looks like a military-type firearm...something they consider "scary looking", in other words. Their view is quite subjective. Thus no law successfully covers it. Their definition even covers water-pistols, cap guns, and other toys.

Their view has absolutely nothing to do with reality.

Classification law is irrelevant because there is no such single, consistent, meaningful law covering a COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE weapon.

Just the same, it is easy to describe and/or define one for the civilians among us.

Military definitions are something else entirely...as they always are.

To return to the cartoon for a moment....

Does the GOP need to court the Tea Party?

Only in the primary.

Few Tea Party enthusiasts are going to vote on the Democrat side. (I mean, REALLY.)

It all goes back to the old saying regarding Republicans, run hard to the right for the primary, then run hard to the middle for the general election.

At the end of the day, there will be Tea Party candidates in office and the people who supported them will proclaim this as America waking up. The Democrats did the same thing when they took both houses and the White House. Neither will be/were completely right.

All is happening in accordance with what was predicted three years ago. The private sector, inadequately regulated, created an economic burden on the American economy and first the Republicans proved unable, now the Democrats proved unable to fix it.

The Republicans knew (as I said three years ago) that it would be highly unlikely for there to be a major economic recovery in time for the midterm elections, therefore, they could oppose every bit of legislation and claim victory when Obama's plans failed to produce a turnaround.

It was a no-brainer strategy, banking on no-brainers to run to their side of the ship.

This is America. Our ballast, our shifting dead weight, keeps our ship afloat. We never allow ourselves to lean too far one way or another.

This is a great thing about America. We don't allow dramatic shifts for long. This keeps tyrants at bay.

I'm always amazed, though, to see how so many people view shifting political tides as a permanent course.

As I live and breathe, I was on the phones just the other night and I had an opportunity to speak with a declared Tea-Partier [in response to a specific question contained in the poll] who resided in the northeast area of Tennessee. This young man does not, and did not speak for all Tea-Partiers, nor do I offer such an example of evidence that all Tea-Partiers are bigoted, but the fact is that people like that young man are attaching themselves to the movement, claiming it as their chosen political platform, and they are indeed poisoning the Tea-Party image and reputation.

This just in:

LET'S GET OUR FACTS RIGHT.

The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009--it was actually January 3rd 2007.

The day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives & Senate, the start of the 110th Congress.

The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those of you who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault," think about this:

January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:

At the time: The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77 The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5% The Unemployment rate was 4.6%

George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB CREATION!

Remember the day.

January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy? BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!

THANK YOU DEMOCRATS for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOS!

(BTW: Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy).

And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac?

OBAMA

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?

OBAMA& the Democratic Congress

So when some idiot tries to blame Bush

REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007 THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!

Bush may have been in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel they were driving.

"It's not that liberals aren't smart, it's just that so much of what they know isn't so." -Ronald Reagan

The best way to handle the upcoming re-balancing is to de-fund the more egregious laws -- ObamaCare, for one. Then, later on, reverse or nulify Dear Leader's unconstitutional power-grabs.

With seven candidates, and five 3rd party contenders that will be appearing on that particular ballot, Tim Scott may pull it off. He's a little less flaky than Democrat Ben Frasier, but, no polls have been conducted since June in that particular race, so it's hard to tell what's going on in the coastal region of S.C. at the moment.

I find it most interesting that although Sarah Palin endorsed him during the runoff that propelled him to nominee status, he makes no mention of that endorsement on his campaign site.

Hhmmmm.

"hypocrites..talk about violations.....prison for those who don't purchase health insurance....thanks obama..

Now why would you spew that disprovable lie?

The only penalty that will be imposed if someone refuses to purchase health insurance when that provision goes into effect in 2014, will involve a tax penalty imposed to off-set the costs of the taxpayers potentially picking up the tab for the medical coasts of the uninsured.

And let's not forget that that this particular provision was a Republican proposed idea, before they turned against it when the Democrats wrote it into health care reform.

Imagine the horror in Democrats daring to suggest that Americans take some responsibility for insuring themselves against catastrophic health care expenses, and for setting up a system so that everyone can do it.

And we're the hypocrites?

Just what color was the turnip truck that you fell from last week? Did you catch a glimpse of the license plate?

Yes...the current system, where nearly a fifth of this nation has no medical coverage whatsoever is far more preferable.

GWB spent $1.8 trillion and waged two wars that currently cost this nation $1.5 million a day.

President Obama has signed legislation to spend approximately $700 billion since he took office.

In light of the fact that the chain letter, whose author is unknown, has been posted again in today's forum, I decided to do some further debunking.

"At the time: [January 7, 2007] The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77"

On October 9, 2007, some ten months later, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 14,164.

"The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%"

What you will not read anywhere is the fact that GDP fell from 2.9% to -6.9% during the year 2008. This of course was the fallout of the spending halt by consumers, a by-product of a crashing Wall Street, and due to failing banks caught up in those bundled mortgage investments.

What happened in 2009, after Obama took office? GDP rose from -6.9% to a full and solid 5% growth rate by the end of December, 2009. This year, it has slowly fallen to 1.8%, but that is still a positive percentage of growth.

GDP is still growing, just not as fast as it was last year.

And this next one is typical of those on the right, who can never be depended on to deliver the relevant truth.

"And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA."

In terms of grand totals, Obama, in fact, received not the third highest, but the SECOND highest amount of contributions from Fannie & Freddie. BUT the fact most relevant to that statement is not offered. INDIVIDUALS who worked for Fannie & Freddie donated the vast majority of those contributions;

$120,349 came in from individual employees. $6,000 came in from Freddie & Fannie PAC's.

Contrast this to Republican Roy Blunt of Missouri, who received;

$78,500 from Freddie & Fannie PAC's. $18,450 from individual employees.

And other than the fact that he was a U.S. Congressman, why would he receive 13 TIMES more money than President Obama did from Fannie & Freddie PAC's?

Could it be because he served as acting Majority leader of the House of Representatives for a year and served twice as Majority Whip of the House of Representatives for a total of six years?

Naw...that's all a coincidence.

"...the sea change in the public mood has come about because the ruling party's policies are deeply unpopular...Democrats and willing media outlets are promoting the idea that an "anti-incumbent" mood has seized the public, but this is not true...Americans are objecting to the hard-left policies, programs and legislation pushed by the Obama Admin. and the Dem. Congress...the Tea Party movement has crystallized public discontent...it arose as a genuine grass-roots citizens protest, of the type that Obama supporters extolled ad nauseum in 2008 until their grass-roots withered...

...Dem. operatives denounced Tea party adherents as bitter, racist, white trash losers...the kind of people Obama said in 2008 "cling to guns...anti-immigrant..anti-trade..this exercise in racial profiling [of the tea partiers] was short-circuited by an April 2010 New York Times poll that showed Tea Partiers tend to be better educated and more affluent than the population as a whole. Liberals [mad-leftists] had to come to grips with the fact that those who opposed their "enlightened rule" were not just dim-witted red-state rubes...many surveys back up the view that liberals [mad-leftists] in Washington [and the nether regions] are the ones who are out of touch with the country..

From: 'Killin crakkas'

"The NAACP put forward a resolution last week formally accusing the Tea Party movement of racism. That's ironic coming from an organization whose mission is to promote the fortunes of one particular racial group.

Post-racial America has yet to arrive for many Black leaders...Obama has shown little interest in leading the national dialogue on race he once proposed, and civil rights groups are unwilling or unable to reach beyond their usual tired rhetoric...[Glenn Beck so far, is the only prominent figure who has! go figure].

Saying the Tea Party movement contains "racist elements that are a threat to democracy" is a shameful slap at the millions of Americans untainted by bigotry who oppose Obama's radical leftist policies regardless of his color [and who voted for him; also see the same 'white' Clinton Progressive, radical policies tea parties condemn]...

The Rev. C.L. Bryant, a Black Tea Party activist who used to be an NAACP chapter president in Texas, said charges of racism are lies intended to further a liberal [mad leftist] agenda. ABC News quoted him as saying the NAACP wants to "create a climate where they can say that those on the right are in fact racist and those on the left are their saviors. This is very much what the liberal [mad leftist] agenda is about." Blacks who show any signs of independent thinking do so at their peril...[here's where the nitpickers above will either ignore whole sections of these postings and zero in on some minute nugget that they can rip to shreds, completely ignoring the main, salient points and truths. Re: "peril" for the conservative Blacks, Jesus said, perfect Love casts out fear...and never fear the world and the evil therein, for I have overcome the world..."] @>

In August, Kenneth Gladney, a Black Tea Partier from Missouri, was severely beaten by two thugs from the SEIU [Big, Huge, Grande Obama-lovin-Left Union]. The NAACP started a campaign to defend Mr. Gladney's ASSAILANTS, saying the victim was an "Uncle Tom" who was "not Black enough" to protect...[so we guess they wouldn't protect whitish Obama either?]

September 20, 2010 at 12:50 p.m.

...weeks ago the Project 21 Black leadership network asked Obama for the second time to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Justice Dept's failure to prosecute New Black Panther Party members for blatant, race-based voter intimidation in Philly in 2008...former JD official J. Christian Adams, who resigned to protest the handling of the case, testified to the US Commission on Civil Rights that JD attorneys in the Civil Rights Division were instructed to ignore cases that involved Black Defendants and White victims...[many of his attorney colleagues affirmed the same]...

Black Panther Minister [!!] King [!!} Samir Shabazz, aka Maurice Heath [we rest our case for Shabazz's mental state], was one of the people engaging in voter intimidation...he lectured a Black audience on video in 2009: "You want freedom? You're gonna have to kill some crackers. you're gonna have to kill some of their babies!" Shabazz added, "I hate white people-all of them! Every last iota of a cracker, I hate 'em"...

...another report last summer on Jerry Jackson, accused Black Panther and AN ELECTED MEMBER of Philly's 14th Ward Democratic Party committee...quotes his interests: "BLACK POWER, BLACK LOVE, BLACK UNITY, BLACK MINDS, KILLIN CRAKKAS"...these are the kinds of violent Black extremists that AG Eric Holder's [Obama's friend, colleague, Chicago Boys Club partner and Appointee, how much more racist and Left do they have to get for ya?] Department is coddling....It has been almost half a century since the Civil Rights Act was passed. The US elected a Black President. American society has closed the divide...However, those who benefit politically from keeping the racial wound fresh continue to wave the bloody shirt and smear those who disagree with their hard-left political agenda. It will take more than a Beer Summit to heal the racial wounds these Black leaders are inflicting on this country."

Gee, I didnt realize so many San Franciscans had moved to Chattanooga. Is there a GLAD chapter there now?

September 20, 2010 at 1:07 p.m.

It was reported in August 2009 that a sign posted outside the home of Jerry Jackson (Philly's 14th Ward) read: "COLORED ONLY. NO WHITES ALLOWED". M. Malkin interviewed Poll Watcher Christopher Hill who Shabazz and Jackson called "cracker" several times and brandished their 'batons' at him. They were wearing paramilitary clothing and attempted to block him several times. A group of elderly women witnessed this and walked away rather than vote. The Holder/SEIU/New Black Panthers "preened in front of the entrance to the polls" [illegally btw], while Hill wondered what would have happened if he, a white man showed up at the polls dressed like the BP's and acting the same way.

In May 2009, Bartle Bull, a Poll Watcher and Civil Rights attorney witnessed the Black Panther's thug tactics and reported Shabazz boasted "you're about to be ruled by the Black man, cracker".

In the Fall of 2008, days before he showed up at Philly's poll stations, Shabazz told the Philadelphia Inquirer: "I'm about the total destruction of white people. I'm about the total liberation of Black people. I hate white people. I hate my enemy...the only thing the cracker understands is violence..the only thing the cracker understands is gunpowder. You got to take violence to violence...

[gee right out of the Qu'ran and all of the manifestos Obama and Michelle read, quoted and adhered to in College and beyond, along with their Marxist friends; here's Michelle talking to a July 12th NAACP meeting: she urged the leaders to 'increase your intensity"..at Princeton she complained about "further integration and/or assimilation into a white, cultural and social structure, that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society, never becoming a full participant"-gee what is all her 'jackie kennedyisms', spending, clothes, vacations, etc., about then?]

What does the timing of the Tea Party demonization mean? "The NAACP's man at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. finds himself radically out of step with the American mainstream in the lead-up to the 2010 mid-terms...he sent his wife to the [NAACP] convention to re-establish White House racial authenticity at a time when increasing numbers of minorities are as fed up with massive debt, usurpation of individual liberties, corruption in Washington and chaos on the border as everyone else..."

...from a NJ Black Panther chapter posting on their website: "...put the bang right in a crackers face..bang for Black Power...hang a cracker...burying him near the river bank with the right shovel...community revolution in progress..."

September 20, 2010 at 1:47 p.m.

...chanting Black Power, Minister Najee Muhammed, national field marshall for the NBPP and Uhuru Shakur, chairman of the Atlanta NBPP chapter, issued a pre-election 2008 threat to "racists and other angry whites"...most certainly we cannot allow these racist forces to slaughter our babies or committ other acts of violence against the Black population nor against our Black President.." [gee, this was pre-election???] hmmmm, interesting.

"...if a Tea Party activist threatened to kill the babies of his political opponents, it wouldn't just be front-page news...it would be the subject of Democratic-led Congressional investigations, a series of terrified NYT columns about the perilous "climate of hate", a Justice Dept probe by AG Eric Holder [that minion of Obama again], a domestic terror alert from Homeland Security's Janet Napolitano and another Important Teachable Moment Speech/Summit from Healer-in-Chief Barack Obama."

"...thanks to Obama's feckless Department of Injustice, these black supremecist brutes are free to show up on the next national Election Day, at polling places, in full paramilitary regalia with nightsticks, hurling racist, anti-American epithets at those exercising their right to vote and at those protecting the integrity of the Electoral process [where are our police departments in all this? hmmm]

I have known for some time that this and other site's where very unsafe and the federal government will have to at some point and i hope soon start "Spy Sweeping" the thing like they did to the "My-Space" web site. The social dating sites are a bunch of feel good hype and they are not safe at all for any age group in my opinion. I say that most of them if they are going to operate for the general public should start charging a fee for a year or two year service in order to access these "Booty Call" hook up sites. My plan would call for the basic $79.95 for the first year and $139.95 for the two year installment. This will help a great deal to clean up the trash that is on those sites and clean out and keep out most of the child porn and under age sex clubs that dwell on there as well.

I will say to this degree that they should also require that you give them a correct address and social security number when creating these type of accounts to ensure safety for all adult's that are going to use them. This in turn will also help local/federal/state law enforcement to have the correct information when starting a case on criminal suspects who happen to break the rules or go over board in there quest for that special "Booty Call" that they desire so much.

I hope that this is will be put in place soon so that nobody else in good standing will not have to lose there life in this sick internet stalking society that we live in.

It is evident that all they needed was the majority, moonpie -- that gave them control of all committees, the place where the action is, in addition to the floor.

We really need to re-write the Congress' rules concerning committees. No one party -- sometimes only ONE person [the chair] -- should determine what bills are sent to the floor for vote. The full House/Senate should have a chance to vote a bill up or down, every time. This is the only way the new guys -- the ones who haven't been totally corrupted -- can change things.

These are the kinds of things, BTW, that the Tea Party is talking about...and is the reason the sitting Congress/President/media is so against them.

Rolando, this I agree with and understand. However, I fail to see how a candidate like O'Donnell (or Bachman, or Huckabee, or Paul) helps. Paul has a little to offer, but O'Donnell? she's got nothing but extreme conservative religion and ignorance on most matters. The two quotes regarding science were real knee-slappers except for the realization that she received votes. Any votes. Must we throw away reason to get a smaller government and balanced budgets? Has she even said how she would do this?

I find it funny how O'Donnell says no more politics like usual which is, of course, the usual way somebody who wants to seem like a outside, or common person, says it.

To what?

Two of your links are not found and the one that does connect to a page has nothing to do with the New Black Panther case, although it was indeed very interesting to watch. Username: alprova | On: September 20, 2010 at 6:21 p.m.

FM,

I refuse to get paranoid after reading your post about Satanism on the social networks. Social Networks are not my thing. I'd worry more about the rabid foxes and racoons in the area.

It will take more than a Beer Summit to heal the racial wounds these Black leaders are inflicting on this country." Username: canaryinthecoalmine | On: September 20, 2010 at 12:52 p.m. _________-

He is the man who was carrying the billy club at the polling station in the video that spawned the entire debacle over the New Black Panthers, for supposedly documenting intimidation of voters on Election Day, 2008.

Samir Sabbazz and another Black Panther, Jerry Jackson, showed up at the poll following an incident where one or more black people allegedly encountered at least one white man, who was reported to have uttered a bigoted comment to or in the presence of those who were black. That incident has never been proven to have take place.

What did happen was that the two men arrived, stood outside, but said not one word to a soul, until the kid who took the video spoke to the Panthers. And the rest is on the video.

The entire video can be seen here;

Sabazz was not rude, nor intimidating at all toward anyone, not even the Penna student, but Shabazz did identify himself as "security," which in my opinion was very wrong. Not one person ever filed any complaint with any law enforcement entity regarding any action by the two men, stating that they were too intimidated to vote there.

You can clearly see that people were coming in and out of the building, unfazed by the sight of the two men. Various blogs have reported that four elderly women were scared to vote, but no names have been offered nor has there been any complaint filed to this date.

The bottom line to all of this, coming up on two years after the fact, is that there was not enough evidence to prosecute or to sue Jackson or Shabazz for what happened on that day.

And some very bigoted white people are upset because the criminal charges and the Government's civil suit were dropped by the Bush and the Obama Administrations, respectively.

And because both Obama and Eric Holder consider themselves to be African-American, it's become something of a racial conspiracy, because they have not pursued charges that were so flimsy to begin with, that it defies all comprehension to understand why some are still so ridiculously obsessed with the incident, again almost two years after it happened.

Woody, what's the Bible reference for"...we are all children of God...."?

Strong's Concordance gave me " ye are all children of God by faith in Christ Jesus," Galatians 3:26, meaning all Christians, not all people; I was impressed by the number of uses of "children" that contrasted God's children with others. Y'all please join God's family, but don't fool yourself that you're in if you're out.

Or if we're all to be God's children, that includes us tea partiers despised by Mr Bennett's pen, eh? Or if it be OK to despise tea types, is it OK to despise other minorities of similar size? NO. Our President, for instance, has brains and charm and good looks and (I presume) good will. He's doing a disastrous job because he's trying to put silly subChristian theories into practice. In fact, big governmentism (including the GOP side) treats bureaucrats as God's children and ordinary people as something less, as if getting a paycheck from the taxpayers turned people into angels. (There are plenty of angelic people who get such paychecks, and plenty of non-angels who don't, but such paychecks do not convey moral superiority.)

A * Khaild Muhammad * wanna be and you should pay it no mind Canary.

This is what they wont to do which is push buttons in people and get in the national media. Canary this in turn in the short process is used to draw a membership drive for there organization after all the hype dies down.

This is a pattern with most groups of this ilk.
