Wes Moore has resigned as boys' basketball coach and golf coach at Signal Mountain High School.

The former Chattanooga Christian School all-state player and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Sweet 16 point guard has been the only coach in the Eagles' three years of existence, compiling a 44-38 overall record. This past season they finished 19-11 and advanced to the Region 3-A semifinals.

"I'm proud to have been the coach here at the program as it started up," Moore said. "I'll be pursuing other opportunities at the end of this school year, but I'm very proud of what we accomplished here in my time."

Moore also guided the girls' golf program to back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010.

"Wes built the basketball program at Signal Mountain," school principal Dr. Tom McCullough said. "He's a very passionate, knowledgeable coach, and of course you can't get better than winning state championships in consecutive years in golf. He will be missed.

"The success of some of our athletic teams - winning championships in volleyball, golf and football - leads some people to believe we should have the same success in every sport, but that doesn't always happen. It will likely be 10 days before the job is posted and we can begin to look at replacements."
