Morning fire destroys house

A home at 9112 Sequoyah Access Road went up in flames early Sunday morning, but the family escaped unharmed, according to Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell.

A motorist reported the fire at 4:50 a.m., and the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded, Maxwell said in a news release.

Homeowner Robert Turner told firefighters family members were awakened by smoke alarms and went out the front door to see the garage on fire.

The house was a total loss, Maxwell said. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Meth lab nabbed in 2-state pursuit

A man driving a Honda Civic with a meth lab in the trunk fled authorities in neighboring Georgia and was arrested after he wrecked in Chattanooga, police said.

Police spokeswoman Rebecca Royval said George Debord Jr., 36, was trying to escape Walker County law officers but crashed his car in the 2500 block of McCallie Avenue.

Chattanooga police and Walker County officers chased Debord on foot, and one officer used a Taser on him, Royval said.

Narcotics officers found methamphetamine in its final liquid stage before it becomes powder, she said. The car is believed to have been stolen in East Ridge, she said.

Debord was arrested on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing meth for resale, manufacturing meth, reckless endangerment, evading arrest, resisting arrest, driving on a revoked license and theft over $1,000.
